Omer Excalibur Disassembly/line release upgrade

I was thinking about opening up my Omer Excalibur 2000 and replacing the plastic line release. I want to machine a stainless line release and install it. I would hate to have that plastic release break on a trip. it has always looked like a weak link on the gun, although it has held up fine so far.

I can't find any instructions on opening the trigger assembly and/or removing the cassette. Any one have any instructions or pictures how to take the thing apart? I see some plastic push pins, do I just knock those out?

I want to know how to access it anyways to properly clean and lube the gun.

I emailed Omer, but have not heard back from them.

Basically, you just drive out the roll pins. Do it slowly and note where all goes, cameras are great for snapping each piece and place as you remove them. Good luck
 
you may be able to buy a metal one to fit from omer. try scuba's world.com they got everything. you just slide the pins out and the assembly comes in half, then you can reset the line release then spray that sucker with houdidi or some super lubricant.if i was you i woul sell the omer and upgrading.but omer's are cool, i still got an omer cayman 110. still works but lotta plastic on that gun, and it seems to me that for my gun, i want it to be metal components on there.omer doesnt see it that way.but i KNOW i'm not alone in wanting/ expecting metal components that will last as long as the rest of the gun.

I have omer Excalibur 75 cm and as Azapa and jtkwest said you have to push the pin and take it out then u can remove the handle. So far i never disassembled the handle itself still new gun. One thing happened to my handle is that the safety came out on the first dive. I am not sure if it is manufacture defect or it is only my gun... I did not ask for warranty or anything because that time i used that handle on my wooden gun which also can be a reason for this failure of safety. Any input that can help here about the safety?
 
I used to worry about the "plastic" line release on my Rob Allen railgun but over time I found the nylon(?) Rob Allen line release is up to the job and more than adequate for my needs. It seems to be that, on the RA railgun at least, the hook/tooth doesn't really come under any strain, as you might first expect - it gets pulled out of the way when the spear first releases.

RA offer a stainless steel upgrade for their guns - it also comes with their break-away rig accessory for big fish & I think on the carbon barreled guns. The RA trigger mech. cassette is very easy to disassemble by pushing out plastic dowels -- I created a thread illustrating this a year or two ago when I replaced mine. I haven't bothered disassembling my Omer spearguns yet, I just rinse them through after use.

The main advantage for the RA would be, I suspect, the greater weight & lack of furring of a metal piece should make the operation a little crisper (due to greater gravitation pull - i.e. weight) and less likely to catch.

Does the excaliber have the line release in front of the trigger like the RA or on the side, like the Omer XXV?


TO LUBE OR NOT TO LUBE...
I was told not to lube my (RA) speargun - it doesn't need it and it might trap grit, dirt & sand. Just rinse it through with plenty of fresh water. However, I know some folk sometimes use a little lube, like WD40 (which can react with some plastics). Maybe a dry lube like graphire or silicone would be a better bet? [Try searching the forum for past discussions on this]

The line release is in front of the trigger.

I took it apart, but believe just a rinse will be more than enough for this assembly. I won't bother taking it apart again unless I need to repair something. I will also leave the line release alone until I have a reason to repair it. I did some research and found the release isn't typical cheap plastic, and is a reinforced nylon material and reportedly very strong.

I like knowing how to maintain my equipment, and really appreciate the advise.
