hi all, i recently got this wetsuit, its my first open cell wetsuit, (usually i just used regular scuba wetsuits). I tried it yesterday for the firt time. I had a bad experience. I fullly immersed it in water before i put it on ( to make that easy), i got into it with some difficulty, but nothing major.
My problem was kind of emabarassing, the wetsuit was almost water tight, so difficult to move around/adjust once it was on me, i wanted to adjust myself "down below" to get more comfortable but couldnt, 2 layers of non moving wetsuit/gloves to make matters worse, the 2 crotch clips of the jacket were also sort of hurting me, I had to abort the dive (i guess i have more precious priorities than fish )
what am i doing wrong? do i have to use more lubricant (shampoo/conditioner/talcum etc...)to get in or is this Normal? to its credit the water was freezing and i felt totally warm though. I know i will get a lot of sarcastic comments about this, or this wouldnt be deeper blue, but at the end please try and give me some good advice

Serious: "I am a big advocate of ordering wetsuits one size larger than the manufacturer's wetsuit sizing charts recommend for my weight. I have always done this, and have never been disapointed with the fit of a new wetsuit. For example: Omer recommends the size 4 in it's charts for my particular weight, but I always order a size 5 and am always happy"

P.S. This usually makes all of my non-tropical freinds drool, but most of my suits are 1.5 mil or 2 mil. Although, I do own some 3 mil suits for when it gets really cold and the water dips down to 23 degrees celsius (72 degrees farenheit).

I don't agree on the 'one size larger' rule - just my opinion but if anything I'd go a bit on the small side - esp for a 3mil. If you are diving in cold water fit is absolutely critical. (my diving conditions are a little cooler than jdty's however - I use my 3mil down into the 50s F and my 5mil into the 30s) In any case you probably just need to use more lube. These open cell suits absolutely require it. Some people claim water is enough - but it doesn't work for me. I hated putting on my custom Elios suit until I finally understood about the lube issue. Heres what I do:

I use diluted hair conditioner - my criteria is to use the highest proportion of water to hair conditioner I can get away with and still have it plenty slimey. I squirt it around inside the suit then lay it flat and rub the interior surfaces together to distribute it - when the key parts of the suit all slide freely against eachother I know I've got the conditioner where it needs to be. These parts are - arms armpits and the area just under, neck and torso. Pretty much everywhere on the bottoms too for your suit - mine has a coating on the inside and I can put the bottoms on with no lube if need be.

Using lube not only makes it easier to get on and adjust - it will increase the life of your suit by reducing friction and stress on the open cell when you put it on.

ahhh, weird question Marwan, but where your "bits and pieces" naked under the suit or did you wear lycra shorts or swimming panties?
i usually wear lycra shorts under the suit to keep the bits and pieces shielded and movement free. only problem is when you got to pee, which can happen when you spend a few hours in the water and its COLD.

mishu, i was going commando under the wetsuit, i used to play waterpolo so i have some of my speedos around, i will try it that way, but dont think it will make that much of a difference , maybe with some shampoo or something.

just make sure your speedos still fit properly. i prefer lycra shorts because the speedos will eventually start to cut into your butt-cheeks and that is painfull. the trick is to get ur willy in a position that is comfortable for a few hours. with the clasp, you will be squished down there. lube is very important.. and make sure the last thing you do is take a wee (and a dump if need be) right befor you put the suit on. its no fun swimming with piss in your pants for hours, no matter how much you try to swish water around in there...

marwan, i had a similar problem with my 5mm cressi comp. after just a few minutes in the water it would start to feel like i'd been kicked where it counts. i kept loosening the beavertail strap (by lengthening the chord that attaches the neoprenene flap to the front) but it was still too tight. the bottoms are farmer johns and i eventually realised it was the torso part that was too short so i cut the shoulder straps and that took care of the tightness. Rabbena ma3ak.

ok i tried it in th tub today, this time i used shampoo and water and squirted the insides WOOOOOOW, it felt like a different suit than th one i wore last weekend, planty of room and manouverabilitytotally comforatble I AM PLEASED AGAIN , ok another question, is peeing in these wetsuits the same as normal suits, i mean can you let some water in and circulate or is it more tricky in the sense that it is more water tight? I really must apologize for all the questions around that area, but let's face it, if your not comfortable where it counts, you're just not comfortable

Piss away it won't do you any harm. Make sure that you have a dump before you dive though, nothing worse that climbing out and having to dump on a rock. A friend of mine had to have a dump in his suit after being caught out, the upper half of his body was stained brown when he did manage to get the suit off.rofl rofl rofl

about the yellow liquid... comparing with me previus suit - nylon inside (as you Marwan for what i understood) in the open cell when you piss it just stays there in that buble like area since the suit is "glued" to the skin. it's not very easy to make it circulate with some water. Hey, but not that it ever hapenned to me rofl

Marwan: refering to another post of yours, its not freaky to try on a wetsuit in the bathtub, it only starts to get freaky when your signifcant other/brother/mother/some1 walks in and you are wearing your suit, plus the goggles, snorkle, and fins face down in the water

My open cell suit has some kinda neoprene that absolutely will not retain odors - the interior also dries almost immediately.

I was trying a new suit on, in the shower, that was very tight indeed. managed to soap it up and put it on, but then to my horror i could not get it off again. had to wait for my girlfried to come home and persuade her that i was not a pervert and would she PLEASE pull the suit off me. I sent the suit back... to prove i was not a pervert.

I go comando under my suits.

LUBE is KEY. not so much for getting into the suit but letting it slip and slide around untill it's in the propper place.

never had a problem with a properly lubed suit. I dive an Open cell omer liek yours.

NEVER piss in your suit. it;s hard on the rubber, and can lead to lovely skin conditions.
