Anyone ever used one?

I am thinking its time to order a mask but I am torn between the Olympia and the Alien.

From my understand the Olympia has a lower internal volume then the Alien but the Alien has a lot of good reviews. (I did a search on here and couldn't find anything on the Olympia on here).

Thanks,
Morg

the alien has mirrored lenses right? so might be better for spearfishing.....

My alien mask doesn't have mirrored lenses. It is also reported to have the same internal volume as an Abyss- since they moved the buckles onto the skirt instead of the frame. It's a very nice mask that I use for quite a bit of my diving- when I'm not using my Sphera that is. ;)

I have no idea about the Olympia, but just thought I add my bit in about the alien.

Ah thanks for the info on the Alien.. I am still a bit lost in which has the lowest internal volume.

From the site I would think that the Olympia has the lowest by the way they word it. "The internal volume of the mask is axceptionally low."

And for the Alien they just say "The internal volume of air of the Alien is in fact exactly the same as the Abyss mask." And they describe the Abyss as "Low volume".

Very confused . Both are nice looking masks and I am liking the Olympia one just a little bit better due to the look of it and perhaps it has a lower volume.

On a side note about the mirrored lenses what are the benefits of it? I believe I have heard that they hide your eye movements. Any other advantages or disadvantages if your not spearfishing?

Thanks a lot,
Morg

mirrored lenses reduce the amount of light you see thus visibility at depth sightly and secondly if you want your dive buddy to be able to see your eyes.

I've used the Sporasub version of the mirrored lens mask, Samourai but it does not lend itself to the not-so-good viz we get here in the UK. In my opinion they would probably work much better in clearer water but with plentiful sunlight too as the mirroring 'darkens' your whole viewing-scape. As for the fish not being able to see your eyes I haven't heard enough feedback to know whether this is just a gimmick; it's usually difficult to ask the fish you've just shot whether he was tempted closer to you because he couldn't see your eyes......

Thanks all for the advice. I was just thinking that mirrored lenses look a lot cooler then normal ones roflrofl.

I have put an order in with Mark for an OMER Alien. I can't ingore all these people when they say its a very nice mask! I've gotta test it out myself now :).

Sorry I am a bit late on the post...I just got my olympia last night. DAMN! This thing is saaaweeeeet! I have had the same abyss for 5 years and never thought I would change models, but this is head and shouldes above my old mask. The silicone is much better, and the articulating buckles really create a nice fit. The buckles are not attached the the frame but rather the skirt...no more frame squeeze. My biggest concern was the field of view but it is considerably greater than the abyss and bandit from side by side comparisons. Definitely my new favorite piece of equipment.:inlove

To look at it it looks like the olympia would have better peripheral vision than the alien - whereas the alien may be better down. Volume-wise I'll bet they are very close. If I had to say I'd guess the Alien is a bit lower - but thats just from looks.

I dove with my Alien all winter - because the soft silicone seals better against my neoprene ice mask. The Omer masks are very soft and comfortable.

From what Mark was saying, I think the volume in the Olympia is even lower than the Alien. I'll check on that.

Thanks Matt.

I would be very interested in finding out. I have ordered a Alien mask from mark however but it is in back order :(.
I can't wait to try it out.

Ok...I'm wrong...it was bound to happen sometime:head

Straight from the man:

"Olympia is definitely lower than the Asia, the Alien is lower than the Olympia and the Abyss or Bandit are slightly lower than the Alien. The best “bang for the buck” for a good field of vision and low volume are the Olympia and the Alien, naturally the newest and most evolved designs."

I'm leaving the office and headed to the coast 'til Monday...Have a good holiday and dive safe...

Matt

Thanks a lot Matt :)

Now I know for sure that I made the correct choice.
