Hello everyone,

I´m looking for a set of carbon fins. I have read lots of information on this site and other forums. Mostly I´m interested in the new omer Rekords and their performance. However I´m a bit confused as there is the older model with smaller carbon weaves and a newer version with bigger carbon weaves - is there any difference in performance between these two versions? I would also be interested in the durability of these fins -are there any specific issues of these fins breaking? And have you been satisfied with these fins?

I normally use my Specialfins Kelpies for spearfishing here in Finland and Norway, nothing wrong with them, they are ok when using the 7mm suit and 10 kg of lead, but I would like to have a softer carbon fin especially for freediving and spearing trips into the warmer tropical waters.

All the help would be highly appreciated! :)

I've had the Omer Rekords and liked them a lot: you definitely get what you pay for, concerning both efficiency and ruggedness: I haven't heard of anyone whose Rekords got broken, and I haven't heard of anyone complaining for their performance. Very good fins.

Just bear in mind, however, that for how I felt them, the Omer Rekords can not be properly classified as "soft": I'd rather say they are medium, or medium to soft, slightly softer than the C4 Falcon 30 (I've had them both) but stiffer than the C4 25's.

If what you're looking for is a very efficient but genuinely "soft" carbon fin, you could look into the newer C4 Mustang VGR 25 (not the old first series of Mustangs, but the newer Mustang VGR): people say very good things about them.

The special fin kelpie medium is a bit softer then a C4/30, I have try both with the omer pocket (actually the SF I've try was the blue water special - I think is the same blade as the kelpie), BTW you can make your current fin stiffer just by replacing the foot pocket, for example the spetton pocket is stiffer then the omer pocket.
Beware the spetton pockets are build the narrow foot.

Strangelove,
You need to come by and see the Spettons. They are plenty wide, but the height across the front of the footpocket is low, and they have a really stiff band across the top of the footpocket. Produces great energy transfer, but at the cost of sqeezing the foot (for me at least).

I've bought a pair and took it to Brazil, but the size I got was too small 43/45 I should have purchase the 46-48.

Thanks a lot for your answers, really appreciate it.

Yeah, I came across these new C4 VGR falcon blades and it made me think if it would make more sense to buy these instead of the Omer Rekords, because in C4 it´s possible to change the footpockets if needed, whereas in Rekords the blades are glued into the footpocket.

So far I have been using Omer footpockets in my fins, but I got a change to try out the Sporasub footpockets, and they felt so much better. They were light and more flexible than the Omers, but that also got me thinking if it´s necessarily a good thing that the footpockets are flexible? I wonder if it´s possible that the softer footpockets lose some of the powertransfer by bending and not allowing the blade to do all the work?

Oh by the way, is the H. Dessault footpocket the same as the old sporasub footpocket? And do you know if it´s possible to mount them onto the C4 VGR Falcons?

Thanks!

???? Rekords arent glued into the footpockets. they have the same fixing system as all the new omer fins with a guide button and no screws. so they change out very easy. i regularly change between my Rekords and ice blades depending ob where i am diving.

Oh really??

Thats great news! I dont know how I got that impression that they are somehow glued into the footpockets... I read somewhere that they dont use screws because they might break from the screwholes... I dunno maybe I have mixed this with some other brand... Anyway this is great information, thanks!

It´s always difficult when you cant see the fins on location, you always need to rely on secondhand information... Maybe I should just go ahead and order them... Or maybe the C4? Aargh, decisions decisions... :head

its correct there are no screw holes in the design its is elagently simple with just a locating button and corrosponding hole in the base of the footpocket, works brilliantly. in all reality both fins are very good (OMER and C4) i can vouch for the omers robustmess a friend of mine accidently slammed the icebox lid shut on his and they didnt break, thatb was 18months ago and they are still going strong. pley of thrust and very responsive i really do like them. pretty sure you wont be disappointed.

good luck
