Get out of Jail Pass

I thought you guys would get a real kick out of this like I did. This is why I love my job most of the time and consider myself very fortunate for being able to do what I love.

Here is a letter we received today at OMER USA from someone less fortunate or who played the wrong hand...and ended up doing time. This man is looking forward to getting out and going spearfishing, and he wants a new Cobra too:) How cool is that. If we get the size he wants on hand I'll probably put one aside for him and wait. It just makes you feel lucky for not being in his shoes and happy at the same time that this sport is probably what keeps this man staying positive and looking forward to the brighter things and a new start on the outside:waterwork !

The Cobra came out a couple of months too late for me, I had an interesting trip and could not wait for the release so I got a nice MA 115, and even though it's not made for 3 bands, I use it like that. I have some 8mm shafts for the big fish and use the 7mm shaft for anything else.

It does have a problem when using 3 bands. The space for the bands is too small and one of the bands gets pinched and scratched by the wood and that leads to tear on the bands pretty fast. It also has some recoil when using all 3 bands, but nothing serious, just have to get used to it.

These are very versitile guns. I have used mine to catch anything from 0.5Lbs Gafftail pompanos to 165Lbs yellowfin tuna.

Senor Tuna

Thanks for chiming in Alex. I hope you don't mind if I use this thread to brag about you or put you on the spot:) A couple months ago someone calls asking for speargun advice on a gun versatile enough for snapper/grouper/amberjacks, smaller fish, and tunas as well...

Typically when someone tells me they have immediate plans to shoot 100lb+ tuna in the ensuing weeks but have never shot one before AND have never used a band gun the cynic in me raises a doubt and twists an eye brow.
I talk him down one gun size because I feel he'll enjoy it more on the snappers and AJ's he'll more realistically run across in my mind, while still having enough punch to drive through a really nice fish should the opportunity come. I'll be darn if he didn't put his money right where his mouth is! A couple weeks after his phone call I get a few pictures of several tunas up to 165lbs :hungover Not too shabby for his first band gun.

Congratulations Alex! Thanks for the picts. You're right, the extra circular hole in the front of the Cobra should fix the problem for guys like you who REALLY have a need for 3 bands:D

Got my ice fins yesterday - here's my review :) My experience is limited to my Sporasub HDs - by comparison these omers are much easier to swim with - better maneuverability and a much more natural extension of my feet. I found myself kicking more because it was fun! Much springier return and very good speed and distance per kick. I was kicking more with less effort but also going quite a bit faster. The cold water has driven all the fish out into deeper water - with nothing but cold, clear water and new fins I took an embarassing number of pictures of them :)

Fondueset I am very happy you like the new fins and how could anyone help themselves from snapping pics when they look so good! :) No one is talking about the new reel Match 30 and 50. We just got them in and I predict they will be the reel everyone will want to have. I love the design and think it is the best reel made to date. I was never very happy with the reel designs that where on the market until now. So I got one of each and look forward to using this smart new design.

We're talking like 30 consecutive dives to 15-25 feet - summersalt at the bottom taking pictures of my happy new fins in 38f water.

That's a happy customer.
Insane, but happy. :)

No we must gets a fin bag to protect the precious.

COngrats on your new fins

Glad you liked them.

Mine are still holding up strong

Guys! I was reading again Mark's "customer" letter. Note this: the guy is a boat captain who got pinched because he was carrying, uh, the wrong load ;) Now, when he comes out he wants to spearfish with a gun in the Bahamas!?!? :head

I just saw 'into the blue' with the scenes of jessica alba wearing ICE fins..... nice :D

yeah and those ICE fins look pretty sweet too.

It's been brought to my attention that we should have uploaded this updated information concerning the Cobras on our website already but here it is:

The 115cm and 130cm models will have a second loop band slot therefore providing capacity for up to three pairs of bands. The modification was done in the last weeks before production started, further delaying 115 and 130 deliveries, to rectify a small problem using a 3rd band as in the Teak version of the Master America speargun. Prior to this two bands had to be squeezed into the same muzzle slot. The bigger guns have sufficient mass and recoil control to handle up to three bands and an 8mm spearshaft while maintaining accuracy. This would be strictly for blue water use, for everything else I think twin sets of bands and a 7mm shaft is more than enough. The 100 version hs one band muzzle slot and the 90 is flat in the front accepting the single pair of 16-20mm screw in rubbers.

In adddition, here are a few pictures from the first small batch of Cobra 100's we received (come and gone) which show just how pretty these Burmese Teak guns are.
