Just saw [ame="http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=8c6_1196317638"]this [/ame]on spearboard. Glad I don't smoke :)

Very impressive. And he only got out a very very small amount of tar. Tar is NOT water soluble. So he could have gotten out much more if he woulda used a solvent such as ethanol.

I've met a few smokers who did that to their lungs every week for over 50 years. Gives one a new appreciation of what the human body is capable of.

My current boss smokes easily 2 packets a day. He sometimes lights the next one while the previous one is still burning in the ashtray. Smoking laws at sea, she's not biig!

Not fair, I now have bronchitis and guess how much I smoke? None at all! Well, at least I can console myself with the fact that if I smoked, it would probably be much worse.

I wonder what the tar intake is in the case of secondhand smoke? You can't always control that aspect.

I can't believe you are all so down on smoking. Think of all the well known health benefits.:head

There will be thousands, perhaps millions, of people taking up smoking this year. What is going through their minds?

A subconcious wish to commit suicide perhaps? Other than that, NO freakin' idea.....

The sad part is that while cancer gets all the bad press, it isn't really what gets you. You think lung cancer or heart disease is bad? Check out emphysema! It's sort of like Alzheimer's for the lungs. And I used to think pipes were the ultimate in intellectual cool . . . Good thing I married a woman who's allergic to tobacco!

I hear you there... I WAS a 1.5 - 2 pack a day of Marlboro Light 100's smoker in the service..... that ended in '87 when I got transferred. Smoke free since and now I wonder... WTF was I thinking? :yack

My uncle died 3 years ago from Emphysema and Carbon Monoxide poisoning.... Lousy combination but he still smoked, even though he was on Oxygen.....

Nasty. It can cause terrible circulation problems too, requiring amputation of legs. My best friends father had throat cancer from smoking. He survived it, must be almost 20 years now, but he lost his voice & job (head teacher) and had to give up his favourite pasttime, shooting. He paid dearly. He quit smoking though. So I was surprised when his eldest daughter took up smoking after that (ironically while training to be a doctor) - thankfully she quit recently.

The govt. are advertising NHS help to quit smoking this year. Good. It is a strong addiction/habit. Most pregnant women seem to manage to give up booze but few manage to stop smoking.

Here in Maryland, the smoke tax increases for 2008 by $1 a pack or $10 a carton. Wonder if any of the dough will go to supplement state health programsrofl So all those pack a day plus smokers are going to be throwing out a whole wong speargun and maybe a set of fins every year.:waterwork

But can a pack a day smoker hold his/her breath long enough to make use of that Wong-and-fins anyway? Dive more, smoke not.

The answer to that is undoubtedly yes, Ali was a 20 a day girl at least when I first met her and could hold well over 5 minutes.

That was probably because her body was constantly O2 deprived anyway so it was used to it.... :hmm
