Hi all,

I haven't come across any one-piece suits for free diving. Does anyone have any knowledge of one-piece suits made of the same quality neoprene (Yamamoto, Heiwa etc) as the traditional two-piece suits? Obviously it's tricky to get into an open cell one-piece but it must be possible if it's coated or lined...pros and cons anyone...URL's?

Thanking you all in advance

Jens

The classic one piece freediving suit is the Orca brand of triathlon suits. These have been used occasionally by freedivers. I used an Orca Predator for my deep dives in 2001, and I know that the dutch team used Orca Predators as a team suit at a major championship. I also know that David Lee used an Orca suit for one of his 60m+ CWNF records. It is very stretchy, but has nylon on the inside lining, back zip, and you need a separate hood.

an ultra-stretchy-one-piece-suit with only one opening at the hood would be cool. you would only have to stretch the hood-opening and jump in - no more problems with forgotten socks or gloves!

Cheers Eric. How would you rate the Orca Predators against e.g. Cressi Competition (I mean there is quite a difference in price...) - and which model is better?

PS: Stille love the goggles I got from you!!!

also Topsub and Elios have triathlon suits, then you can choose the neopren AND they are also available custom-made. Yes we used the Orca-suits as Team-suit and even after 4 years of heavy use still in one piece. Now I have a Topsub custom made one piece suit and it is a beauty......

cheers pim

Interesting! The only drawbacks would seem to be the zipper and the non-open cell lining. I'm currently diving in a 3mm Elios with what they call 'thermic plush' lining and a separate hood. Neither of those factors seem to be much of an issue as I've been quite comfortable in it since late may - when the surface temp here was below 50F - 10C - at depth probably 8C or less. Hood leaks a bit if I let my hair out under it - but it's mainly refreshing. Generally only diving for about 90 minutes though. One piece would be handy.

Some of our surfing brothers use such a thing. Ultra stretchy, but quite thin like 3mm and internal lined. You climb in from the hood. I tried one about a year ago in Cali, it worked pretty good.

So it sounds like quite a few have had concrete good experiences with one-piece suit..it might be a slight compromise on the two-piece open cell suit, but I hope to gain some on the suit being easier to get in and out as I currently mainly dive off a boat in the med. Then the question is - which specific suit should I get: Spiro (model?), Topsub (model?), Elios (model?), Orca (model?)??? All recommmendations are very welcome as are specific URL's, good prices (currently based in Denmark) etc...

Thanking you all beforehand!!

Thanks heaps for response - will check out your recommendations, greatly appreciated!

There was a 1-piece fredive suit with no zips made back in 1998 by Gul for the UK freedive team to wear in Sardinia. You climbed in through the hood. It looked cool, but wasn't as good as a 2-piece suit.

I didn't know that something like that existed...
Amazing!

If the fins were attached to it you wouldn't even have to bother about forgotten fins anymore... JK...

And what about aqualung skinsuit? It's only 0,5 mm neoprene but it has titanium coating inside for heat conservation, and it fits very well.
