Because of our usually clean water, many divers here like to modify their muzzles to open muzzle style. A gun with two bands can be used for fish holed up, or for those in the open or on the run. Here's my thoughts:

Advantages
1. Cheaper to change bands.
2. Opens sight, easier to aim.
3. Allows adjustable power for both reef and open shots.
4. Smaller muzzle profile, easier to swing.
5. Can use fin/riffe type shafts.
6. No more shaft rattling.
7. Easier to load.
8. Less tangling.
9. Line guide for guns with reels (Higa Model)

Disadvantages
1. Probably ruins warranty on new gun.
2. If overpowered, can risk trigger failure.
3. $50 more to spend.
4. slimmer muzzle may mean less stability.

First pic is of a Gene Higa muzzle for Rob Allen guns. Also made for Euro guns.

Just thought of some other advantages:

1. Use of RA shafts or fin type shaft means no metal wishbones. Soft wishbones are much safer.
2. Soft wishbones are also quieter.
3. Replacing wishbones are cheap.
