Hey I have a problem in that I cannot freedive in the winter and its driving me crazy!!! I have 2 wetsuits and they just cannot cut it in the cold water now. Its extremely cold and nearing freezing over.

I am going to be going to a big SCUBA dive show and I am currently looking at a BARE 7mm Arctic Full & Arctic Vest. You can see it here:
http://www.aquariusscuba.com/specials/?page=specials Its on the far right.

Now like I said I have 2 wetsuits but the problem is that my main wetsuit is really strange.... Its also made by bare and its a semi dry/wet suit. My leggings are very well made and when I go into the water my legs don't get wet until I lift up my waist and allow some water to get in it. It also comes with this weird Vest.... Its horrible for swimming in but great for SCUBA.

I have a short leg / short arm wetsuit that is about 3mm. That won't cut it thou .

My questions are:

1. Is this a good freediving suit?

2. Will this be warm? I don't know the actual temperature of the bay but it is close to freezing.

3. Would I need to strap more weight other areas of my body to stay down? (Like not just a belt).

I think an opencell suit would be better for freediving. Much warmer, so it doesn't have to be so thick, and more flexible.

Some people do use a neckweight or ankle weights as well as a belt, but it should be possible to only use a belt.

I don't know the particular caracteristics of this suit, but I think your much better off buying a true freediver suit from a company like Elios, Picasso, etc.
Elios has a very good suface and helps customers to choose the right materials for their particular needs. A tailor made suit may cost arround E 220, and it will be warmer per milimeter because of better materials and fit. Less thickness means less weight and less boilancy difference, more comfort and flexibility.
A few more cold diving tips:

Wear a swimcap under your hood, keeping your head and sinusses much more warm.
Put a little bit of fat, like vaseline onto the eardrum to keep the cold water from contating it.
Have something warm to drink afterwards,
Have a little slow burning, moldeble food a few hours before the dive. Be hydrated, have enough sleep.

Maybe others have some more cold water tips, you can search the forum on cold water diving anyway.

Best of fun!

Love, Peace and Water!

I use an elios 5mm black shadow inside/superstretch outside and a henderson Ice cap - water temp is around 3c. Endurance depends more on how cold and windy it is on the surface. For some reason a stiff breeze seems to take it out of a wetsuit more than the water does.
