Ok let me get quick to the topic, I am considering a new gun set up. My current gun a Rob Allen Caranx 900 is a good little gun but I want something longer for more distance shoots.

I was thinking of doing the following, Use spare parts of my current Rob Allen gun just the handle, I have a close muzzle already. Parts to Purchase! Rob Allen 110 or 120 cm carbon barrel, shaft 7mm, band and wishbone inserters.

I want to be able to reload the gun rather quick, (I am not a fan of the RA open muzzle I have one, with that being said I want to switch back to my old one). I was thinking a single 20mm band for the gun? Does some 1 think this is not enough power or should I consider 2x16mm, I would prefer the 1x20mm set up but I don’t know how it would shoot on a long gun? Type of fish I usually go after? Grouper, barracuda, hogfish, snapper, trigger maybe dolphin and cero, Cuberas & all other South Florida Fishes.
thanks all for your opinions!

I would personly not bother on carbon unless 70cm or 130 and above..

I no OZys that us 1x 20mm on all there guns but i like the 2x 16 as easyer to laod more power and i have the opsion of 1x 20 or 16

Interesting answer jimy, why 70cm?

Hi Armandosx, did you change your RA in the end? I've toyed with idea of cutting my RA 90 down to 80cm or getting another barrel (either 70/80 or longer 100/110), perhaps carbon, but I'm not confident that I could remove the muzzle and/or handle without causing damage.

I had a 16mm band on my RA Sparid 90, which loaded fine and was plenty power. I upgraded to a 20mm band later and to be honest I find it painful to load without a supplementary loading pad (flip-flop/thong sole) under my Elios loading pad. It takes a bit of strength to load but its probably more technique, focus, quick clean pull back. I'm quite strong but that's not enough!

My suggestion would be a single 16mm band. But if you really have a need for more power a single 20mm or 2x14mm or 2x16mm are all reasonable options. I probably would go for single 20mm for speed of loading & ease of maintenance. Although 2x14mm should give you the same power. 2x16mm would give you more power to help offset the time & cost of 2 bands, and with 2 bands you always have the option to use only one band -- saw a video this week of a guy doing just that to spear a fish holed up in a cave.

I think the problem with a single 20mm band is for that size band to be at full performance stretch it will be very hard to load. There are quite a few threads relating to band diameter, band stretch & band power but from my experience pulling back a 20mm band to 3 x its length on a 120 is tough?

Guys, thanks for your replys .... I got an RA 110 CM 2x16mm bands open muzzle... and yes I bearly load the 2 bands, i haven't really found a need to 1x16mm is more than enough to pass a grouper without problems, but like stated before the power is there if needed ... !

The only upgrade I will do to the gun will be a band swap when my bands wear out 1x18mm band. & 2 wraps of mono & a welded extra fin as a lower power option to when i am shooting the gun into rocks etc. I will have my 110 shoting like a 90 or so with the extra tab.

FOX any news on the airbaletes they are super expensive here and haven't heard a thing about them.... maybe in the future i will consider airguns for now rob allen does more than enough.

No more news other than what you can read on db but I am thinking about buying one soon.
I will try to get one from Apnea in Jersey next time I am over there.
