Anyone have any success over here with either ??

It's forbidden to free dive for ormer in France, only legal by foot at low tide.

Etrilles are velvet swimming crabs, make excellent soup but bite like ******

The Channel Isles are a good place for Ormers but not sure if they are about over in the UK? perhaps in the South-West somewhere?? The taking of Ormers is strictly regulated in the Channel Isles.
 
The channel islands are the northern end of the range for ormers, never heard of them off mainland UK
Velvet swimmers are the most vicious little bastards on the planet I find them a bit fiddly to collect by hand (just because you need a lot for a feed and I never carry a bag), but have set pots for them succesfully. mmmmmmmmmmm velvet crab and chilli soup

thanks, do they cling to the rocks like a limpet? How widespread are they? Do you bbq them or something else

Ormer are very tough to eat unless you beat them and 'prick' them around exterior very well prior to cooking.

Dave, I carry a bag but refuse find it very difficult to collect them due to viciousness and agility. Tend to collect in France at low water with barbeque tongs !!!, fry, pass through moulinet as stock for soup.

The chinese slice the raw ormer into extremely thin slices then drop them into boiling chicken stock for a few seconds, supposed to be very tasty.
 
Ormers are a culinary delight beyond verbal descripcion. They are also very sort after & difficult to find. A properly prepared Ormer is very tender & although there is no taste comparison, perhaps veal would give a remote idea?
