For fifty years I'd fly anything with wings that I could get my hands on from a model that weighed half a gram to a 400 ton '47 but I think I'll pass on wingsuits. Some video though.

I grew up on a hill above a bay on the Mississippi river, used to dream all the time of flying over the river valley just like those guys.

Here in Nor Cal I fought forest fires, got flown in and dropped by a helicopter on a really narrow ridge top, that was the best airborne experience I've had so far.

Guess I'd rather fly a bit slower than the wingsuit, enjoy the scenery more.

BASE jumping has fascinated me for a long time and wingsuit BASE.... well, what can you say!
I remember when this video (1st Base)... ...came out in the 90's - blew my mind. In particular the song from that video - "Voluntary Sacrifice" by Yelp
It's a tune I often listen to as I'm getting ready to go spearfishing.

Those wingsuits looks awesome; i was realy keen on doing some base when i was at uni, but unfortunately funds didnt allow. Since then i've done a lot of paragliding which has been fantastic.

My dad always said that you only consider jumping out of an airplane when both engines are on fire, one wing is about to fall off and you have very little hope of survival. Even then your chances are better in the plane. I'm inclined to agree but then again that could just be because I am absolutely petrified of heights. I don't know what in this world would convince me to jump out of a perfectly good plane.

I get heart palpitations and break out into a cold sweat just looking at the pictures :)

Scares the piss out of me. Hardcore, and I'd say the most extreme thing out there. When people's jaws drop when I tell them what I do for sun, I always refer to this stuff!

Without a parachute....100% correct..
But much like freediving, its a sport you can push to limits and boyond depending on how far you want to take it.

BASEjumping is dangerous beyond belief (jumping solid objects, no reserve canopy, hardly time to react etc)

But when it comes to skydiving, its a lot safer than most sports (including the one we practice here).
The public image of the sport is different from the actual statistics. But one news article per year scares people more than knowing they'll most likely die someday when merely painting the garage-door..

And there's always the option of staying home and watching TV...but this is a helluvalot more exitingrofl

I'm thinking with or without the parachute (ie with those wings)

I'm not really concerned about safety, it's the height thing that gets me.... the Fear Factor if you like :)

Guess it's like the whole sharks saga, eh?

Freediving is only a more recent passion for me, and wingsuit flying is what Im usually doing in the weekends. I have a website at Team Fly Like Brick - Wingsuit Flight, Coaching and Instruction with some videos and pictures. Check it out.

I think there are quite a few freediving skydivers out there.
fflupe on here, and matt111, and (although not a poster here) Robert (Morpheus)...its a secret society of underwater tracking fans ;)

Heights have never particularly frightened me and I have to admit that if I was a couple of decades younger, I'd be looking into this. Truly amazing.

when i started skydiving i was not by i wind tunnel so i would go to the pool and learn my arch lol

Some of you skydiver & base jumping guys might remember a guy called Dwain Weston. I grew up with Dwain in our pokey little surf-town, used to surf together in our younger days. He was known for being the best base jumper in the world but was just starting to get into wingsuit flying which eventually lead to his death in 2003 in Colorado. He was my older brother's best mate and 3 years older than me, I just realised that i'm now 3 years older than him which is a bit sobering. Nevertheless, he had a unique ability to control fear and had great risk management skills that made him the best in the business, I know he'd love seeing those wingsuit shots and how the sports have advanced over the years.

Me? I think you're all crazy bastards, but then again I hold my breath for fun
