I have two guns (one soon to be finished) and I want to use the same spear for both of the guns. I have shortened the spear and changed the way I rig the gun.

So my question is if someone have experinece from using thread of another material than mono to tie the spear to the gun? The advantage would be the possibility to tie it in the length I want and then untie easily. Mono has sleeves and with those this can´t be done... I don´t use any reel.

Would synthetic textile fibers, like dyneema, be suitable?

Looking forward to finishing my second gun!

Maybe consider using a line bungee, with a swivel clip, on both of you guns. That will make it easier for you to chance the spear.

But really, why use one spear for two guns? I have two spears for every gun I own. A spear can get bend or have the tip hammered during hunting, and it’s nice to have a spare ready with mono on, lying in the car.

I really prefer mono as shooting line. Durable to abrasion and cheap!

i agree with C-X that 1 spear for 2 guns isnt going to work very well and a gun bungee will makes shanging spears MUCH easier so you can continue to use mono. however jacketed Dyneema is a VERY suitable shooting line with huge breaking strain and also good abrasion resitance, you can find it through manufacturer suchj as OMER, ORCA south Africa and Rob Allen. generally comes in 2mm diameter with a breaking strain of around 250-350kg.

Johan, you can get the most of the parts you will need here: UV-sport.dk
However, I don't know how difficult it will be getting it into Sweden. Maybe the spears alone are legal, but not he spearguns?

Thank you for your advices!
I will consider all of this.
I don´t hunt very much with my guns, maybe 10 dives per season and that´s why I feel I don´t want to spend so much money on it and have several spears. (All spearo gear has to be imported = expensive) . I build guns mainly for the fun of the DIY project itself, hunting is almost just a bonus. But of course I wan´t my guns to be in order.

About Sweden and the laws: some spearguns are legal, depending on power and length. It is also possible to apply for a "storing license"; to store the gun at home in Sweden for the need of using it abroad (Norway).

I´ve now decided to change the mono to another synthetic textile line for the spear.
I know that mono has some advantages, but I really like to be able to modify my gear all the time to try different sollutions, and mono isn´t ideal for that.
