Outfitting your Dive Kayak

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
You may know already mate but the Scupper Pro and the RTM Tempo are pretty much the same boat.

RTM are a French company that used to do the moulding of Ocean kayaks. At some point Ocean decided to do their own so pulled out of RTM, but RTM continue to use some of the Ocean designs under their own name (or something like that anyway).

Ocean have since added some nice touches and minor mods to the Scupper while the Tempo stays as they orginally were but they're the same basic boat.

There's a Rotomod dealer near me at Durrus. He has models available to try out. I think the tempo has rod holders behind the seat now.
Wonder if the tempo rudder system would fit straight onto my scupper? None of the Ocean dealers here seem to stock rudder systems except to order from abroad.

I understand that the newer scupper pro model has a re-modeled hatch surround which drains better than the original - not sure if this would have been incorporated into the RTM version tho. it's interesting to see so many of us use the SPTW - compared to the rod/line fishers who use so many different yaks.
I wonder whether there is much difference in getting back into a Scupper pro, compared to a prowler, etc.? prolly a bit easier i think.

Love that Durrus cheese! checked out the kayak website there. Looks good. Did you get your scupper from him Sunfish? and does he keep 2nd hand boats?

As far as my research told me, these sit on's seem to keep their value fairly well, so its almost as well to buy new and get a boat you can know hasn't been meddled with.

I didn't get the scupper from him but he did offer me deals on some different kayaks. He only kept Rotomod at that time and I decided on a Scupper Pro because I knew it had a good track record with spearos.(They've used it in California and Hawaii for years). I've never regretted it but I wouldn't mind a look at the Rotomods that Darren stocks. I don't know if he has secondhand models but they do come up in the "classified ads". We have a paper here in West Cork, the "Friday Ad", and it often has second hand sit ons.
