i am making this 2 shot gun. well, its pretty much done except forthe handle and the finish. it is 58 " long at the moment,(i may cut off a couple inches. or i may put lead behind rear trigger, we'll see how it floats) so 58" overall, top track is 50" bottom track is 41" both are 9/32" bored with my new custom bit. leaving 3/16 on top of track is open for shark fins. instead of 1/4" i WAS leaving with the neptonics bit. i made two band slots since the gun is so tall. the gun is 2" tall x 1 1/2" wide. i will make the top spear a line shaft and the bottom will be freeshaft. both will have 2 5/8" bands. i poured bith bottom and top tracks with graphite. also the area where the trigger rod slides is also graphite. this was complicated router work. not too much worse than a regular gun. but the line anchor was a dilemna. i put it on the side like big daddy spearguns does.

Nice...I like cats too. JT, If you ever want to add a shooting line to the under shaft, you could do a Hienrick style.

Cheers, Don

Looking good Jason! How much does the gun weigh fully loaded?

7 lbs. it has 2- 9/32 spears. the bottom is 50" top one is 57". i will switch to a 60" on top when i get it in the mail. the gun has 6" behind the rear trigger mech. i planned to either cut off most of that,(if it was too negative) or i can leave it then have room to add up to 3 lbs of lead shot. it seems to me that the gun feels heavy mostly because of the size of the wood, more than the extra spear, so in the water , it probably will prove to be positively buoyant as is. so a little lead behind the trigger most likely will improve things.with the 4 5/8" bands at the muzzle, should help muzzle buoyancy also ,(hopefully) that is why i am waiting to put the butt plate till i take it in the water. it has a neptonics reef trigger w/ self reset in back also. i took it down to the fishing docks yesterday and showed it off to the captains,(friends) pretty much everyone loves it. i got asked over and over " how much?" i have never had much fanfare for any of my other creations. so i may just start making a bunch of these. first i am making two cf hybrids. i am starting that today. i am gonna start a new thread about those builds tonight. you guys gottacheck out those cf tubes i ordered from china, they are beautiful! and absolutely perfectly correct size ,(1/2 millimeter less than 1 1/4" ball bit i have) 30.5mm o.d 1" i.d. 36" long for 45$ each with 20$ for shipping for 2 from china 110$ total for 2. i tried to get a u.s. company to make them and they wanted close to 200$ for 1 without shipping. i will pass on the email for the company i used. they speak,or at least type english too)

also notice the epoxy coats. that is the surfboard resin i got from system 3. it has uv inhibitors. i did one coat of west marine brand penetrating epoxy on whole gun ,(especially the band and trigger/ line release slots) then two coats of the sytem 3, followed by one coat of west sytem with the special clear hardener for coatings. always sanding in between coats with 220 grit paper. i find that the west sytem comes out the smoothest, with no bubbles,(almost anyway) so i still use that for the final coat. the trick phil h. told me is the ultimate method so far! : heat up the guns to about 95 degrees in a hot car in the sun , with hair dryer to speed it up a little) after about an hour pull the gun out and coat with epoxy and allow to dry in ac. PRESTO!_ no bubbles! like magic! btw: phil just told me to heat up guns to 20 deg. hotter than drying area will be. it was my idea to put them in a hot car. works great!

That is great news that you have a epoxy finish that you are happy with.
I also tried that method & it certainly gives a better result that I have managed before.
Good luck with you next builds, carbon looks very cool.

thanks. seems 10 or 12 coats of varnish is the key to a mirrror finish. but , if epoxy is done correctly, you get pretty nice results in 3 or 4 coats only giving you the build up you need.

thanks. whats " heinrick" style line look like?

the heinrick style release is the type that the big seasniper guns have. Instead of a mechanical release there is an extra shark fin on the shaft and the shooting line raps around 2 derlin tabs on either side of the gun and around the shark fin tab. When the shaft releases, so does the shooting line. This style needs a snubber for hooking up to a float line. Ill see if I can find a pic.

Here is a unique interpretation of a heinrich

Here is the heinrich in a more of the original sense. Just picture the line that would typically wrap around your release wrapping around the black tabs and around the sharkfin (one on each side for a double wrap)

THATS A VERY creative way to do a line release. i have actually seen that before on the sea sniper site. i wasnt sure exactly how it works. now i know. i think that i will stick with a freeshaft on this gun. because with two lines, i am asking for a tangled mess. realistically, a few guys i know just freeshaft only. and are able to get really big fish sometimes! i guess if you pick your shots carefully and chase the fish down fast after shooting, it can actually work out pretty well on the reef. a 2 shot freeshafting gun is really simple ,(no lines ) and with 2 shots it may just be effective enough , but i am used to having a line on my gun, sometimes we see big fish swimming on the reef. its nice to have a line for 30# fish. it just seems the bottom spear is best left freeshaft only. i definately COULD instal a line release,( the 2 trigger mech had a slot for a second line release on the other side of the gun, i just chose not to cut it in. i was really worried about having a clusterfuck of lines with 2 spears, so i just figured it was simpler/ therefore better.(my experience bears that to be true) if you look at the big daddy spearguns website, he has a 2 shot gun. with 2 lines. and a reel. and it looks complicated as hell. REALLY complicated. so that inspired me, that if i was going to build a very user friendly 2 shot gun, it needs to be simple. this gun is not much more complicated than a regular gun with only 1 line
