G'day :)

Whenever I pack (I'm managing about 30 packs absolute maximum) I have to hold my nose. The way I understand it, this is cause my soft pallate control pretty much sucks. I've done Erics exercises from the Frenzel doc for pallate control many times, and I can get them right, but whenever I try to pack without holding my nose, it just doesn't work... does anyone have any techniques or suggestions to rememdy this, or can anyone explain how they actually use the soft pallate (whether conciously or not) when they pack?

Many thanks in advance

With your mouth closed, exhale into your closed mouth, filling your cheeks. Don't let the air of your nose. Can you do that? Then your soft palate is in the correct position.

Then, push the air back into your lungs, without letting it out of your nose.

Repeat these internal respirations (filling the cheeks by blowing, then pushing the air back into your lungs).

If you can do these internal respirations in and out of your cheeks (without air leaking out of your nose), then your soft palate is working properly.

Eric - many thanks! Just did about 10 minutes of blowing my cheeks up and then putting that air back in my lungs, and they work fine. I finally managed to pack a small ammount (could feel the extra pressure). It takes a lot more packs, and its a lot slower than holding my nose, but I guess that's just practice... thanks again :)
