Hi, we have tried Bognor a couple of times but both times it was murky and a bit of a wasted trip except for the odd lobster. We then happened across the Pagham harbour spit which seemed to have crystal clear water and good potential for a carefully planned dive as long as you timed the tides, current etc. The bass must race in and out of that narrow entrance and lurk around on the sides of the channel. I checked here http://ukbass.com/seabassandfishery/inshorerules.html and it seems it is not a bass nursery and anyway we are shore diving and not using boats. Does anyone have any experience or info?

Thanks

If you dive in Pagham Harbour you will most certainaly come into contact with the Sussex Sea Fisheries patrol craft, shore diving or not. Stick to Bognor, Selsey or Wittering. Spearfishing in the Sussex Sea Fisheries area (Dungerness to Hayling Island) is very closely monitored. There is a voluntary agreement of 10 fish per diver and you can only take 2 lobsters. Bass should be over 45cm long. Sussex Spearfishing club have done lots of work with the committe over the last couple of years at one stage avoiding the sport being completely banned. Everyone has to learn and its good that you request information, in short diving in Pagham Harbour (or the entrance) should be avoided at all costs. Hope you find this constructive my intention is not to moan.

Hi Kev, I would not say you moaned at all. Providing good info for us all. When you come across a place and you search for info on the net and it's not there then the only way all us spearos will stay on the right track is knowledge sharing and not knowledge retention in a forum like this. I think everyone appreciates any info from the people who have it. Voluntary local agreements are all but invisible to the general population until someone is prepared to be open and honest. There may be people reading this post that know of similar situations and I encourage people to mention it as I, like some others I am sure, try and get around and enjoy the various coastlines, but without advice we all would never know.:wave

Thanks again.
