I've just bought an RA 100 cm Caranx, 20 mm bands and it seems to be a canon...not a spear gun......My first band gun as I'm used to pneumatic guns.

LOADING...wow and another WOWrofl

It HURTS LIKE HELL !:(

I have no problems in the actual loading of the band but the PAIN on my chest is just unbareable...:crutch

If I go on like this, I will probably end up loading the gun 1 or 2 times an hour maximum...not a lot of fun.

I do not wear wetsuits .....so it's just my skin & the RA canon...

Any suggestion to load the gun with minimum pain....will be great :thankyou

Hi again Ihab. Yes i know the problem, when its warm sea and you dont wear a suit hard plastic and soft skin dont exactly get on, i overcame this problem in a simple but very effective way, get an old Flip-Flop cut to size and super-glue it to the loading stem, "Voila" a non slip soft loading pad for bare skin use, all my guns have this on them just in case i go TOPLESS like Sara.:) :) :)

Thank you ...THANK you ... THANK YOU

I went to my bedroom, tried it immedietly, and it worked super.

Thank You...you saved me a lot of pain...I was beginning to regret I ever switched to band guns.

BTW, we export our protein bars to Cyprus to a very well know bodybuilder (Stavros) in Cyprus...actually he is also a personal freind of mine.

That's my web site.

Do you think energy bars would be a good idea for spearos on the hunt.

Thanks again Groupermadness..I owe you one.

If you wear a weightbelt you can also glue a patch of neoprene onto the buckle (if plastic) and load on that.

I spent two weeks loading my double rubber 1.3m RA while diving in 30deg water using the following sequence:

1 day in the middle of the chest
1 day on the left pectoral muscle
1 day on the right pectoral muscle
1 day in the middle of my stomach
1 day on my left hip
1 day on my right hip
and then switched to belt buckle loading (metal buckle) for 2 days.

I then looked as if someone had beaten me up.

The last 6 days I used my camera only. :)

Hehehe..:) , I have noticed that, before going out, it is not good to eat a lot.:naughty
My best results are made on a high carbohidrate meal without any fat, rice with a bit of honey for example, at least 1 and a half hour before spearing!!
The digestion of rich foods of protein and fatty food, take to much energy from your body!!
Afterwards!! Proteinbars are fantastic:friday

I glued a thick 7mm piece of neoprene to the butt of my gun- flip flop is an interesting idea.

I had the same problem with a 1.2m gun with 20mm rubber, even with a 5mm wetsuit (the loading pad was probably to low). At the end of a long day I would have a bump on my chest. I eventually switched to 2 x 16mm rubbers. Altough it takes longer to load it is much easier to load than the single 20mm rubber.

Hey shadow you need to learn to shoot staright then you won't be loading so often to get that bruised;)

:t When you are shooting to feed 30 people, you take a few shots. :t

Trout, tuskies, Spanish Mack, Emperor ect etc

When you have 30 people to feed, better start looking for other uses of ruber. . . rofl

get an old strip off a 5mm or thicker wetsuit and fold it over as many times as you want. Then sew it together with someting like fishing nylon. Fix it to the but with a bunch or rubber bands (aslo acts as a handy store for rubber bands if you want to lash them around lobster claws etc). I've got a 20mm wedge on my butt (he he), works great. Oh and I've got a 5mm suit on too, so that's 25mm but hey I'm a big softy.

I used to have the challenge of bruising my chest whenever I would go spearfishing 20MM band 90CM gun but lately the bruises have become less, I think my chest is actually getting used to it. I have tried weigh lifting grips and have heard the flip flop thing as well. I also heard that a squeegee has the right texture of rubber. I personally though like to keep the gun as basic as possible without over accessrising. your out there to hunt, be a man and take some pain. its good for you.......

Took my RA 120 with a hard 20 Mill band on a Mexico Reef hunting trip. This gun is so hard to load that most of my friends can’t budge it. I whore a surf suit because the water was 80 something degrees. Loading the 120 the first five times was easy after that my chest started getting tender. I slipped a Frisbee under my wet suite as a hardened shooting pad. The Frisbee helped but my chest was bruised all to hell by then.
