I'm hoping to find a lake with relatively clear water on Wednesday. Any suggestions as to a panfish strategy? Shallow? Deep? Too early to be on beds, right?

Usually not on beds untill may/June - but this year is kinda different. I was in Crystal Lake last Friday to check the clarity and I found all the panfish in REAL SHALLOW- 3' or less. I suppose there could of been fish deeper- but I could only see 4'. I did see alot of Crappies in the shallows.

warm shallow (less than 30 feet) inlets and bays and around docks. they generaly prefer some moderate cover like submerged trees and shrubs as well as large rocks. they can also be found around the pylons of bridges that cross the lake. they really like shiny things, and all ways remember to wear a rash gaurd or something when swiming with them, last time i was down at lake powell i almost had my nipple removed by one that was about the size of my hand:crutch

here is Wisconsin we still need to wear full wetsuits- as the water temp is still in about the 40's. We won't have to worry about the 'Nipple Pluckers' :D

Brian you should come to lake Geneva this Sat. Or do you work? (I think you do If I remember right)

thanks whopper.... but yes i work.... also i'd hate to look like a sissy if the water turns out to be too cold for me!

Yes, I braved the water, in hopes of getting some of the aforementioned crappies. The water was low 40's, and I was able to stay in without a wetsuit for about a minute in a half. I got out screaming bloody murder, but I did see two bluegill nests, no fish though.

they already made some beds and sittin on them at my cabin.... flyrod+fish=good dinner

I used to fish all of the time...Now I like to poke a few holes in 'em instead! :t

I would normally atleast do some spring Walleye fishin' :hmm'...but this year with the new "twins" and a new house it just did'nt happen...I WILL get out to poke me some fishie's again soon though! Tried thrice already! Nothing worth it but I did realize I can do 38 degree water for atleast an hour in my scubamax farmer John's! :inlove

I coulda' been up at the "Outlet" a few times no prob this last winter! :vangry

The water's gettin' clearer and warmer everyday..."Tis the season once again! :inlove
