Patent foramen ovale and freediving

Aug 22, 2016
Hello freedivers,

are there any freedivers here who have or know something about PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) or had simmilar syptoms to what im writingbelow?

Im asking because ive been diagnosed with PFO about 3 yrs ago, and have been freediving for about 5 years with no issues. But recently (about 3 weeks) when doing dynamic apnea, whenever I do more than 2 long distances (>70% PR) with medium amount of packing I get these symptoms mid dive or when surfacing at the dizzy, sick , my legs start feeling numb or feel like they're sweeling.

Im thinking that maybe this has to do with my foramen ovale getting bigger (if it can grow over time)?

Right now im stopping with freediving for now and im going to do some medical tests to see whats happening.. - The Worlds Largest Community Dedicated To Freediving, Scuba Diving and Spearfishing
