Another thread about Pathos footpockets unfortunately but all the searching didn’t really turn up the answer I was after.

Everything on the net seems to say that the Pathos footpockets do fit wide feet but how wide are they? Is it wide feet only or do they also fit narrow to normal feet?

Currently I’m using C4’s with Skorpio blades but like the sound of light fins and really need a spare set so my good freediving fins don’t get trashing rock hopping when spearfishing. Although those Skorpio blades have taken some real abuse and stayed in one piece so far.

The C4's are pretty comfortable but a bit heavy and limited with blade selections. And I wonder how many blades are actually designed for these FP's rather than just shaped to fit into the FP? And the actual C4 blades are crazy expensive which doesn't help. Previously I had stingrays but found them pretty uncomfortable and too loose over the top of the front of the foot.

If anyone out there could shed some light on how Pathos FPs fit narrow/normal feet it would be very helpful. Even if the answer is a ‘they don’t’ I suppose.

Cheers

I'm afraid I can't help with the particular fins you have in mind, because I swim exclusively with all-rubber fins. This said, your question once again raises an unresolved issue in online fin retailing, the general lack of information about the internal dimensions of foot pockets. How I wish all fin manufacturers and retailers provided the maximum internal length and the maximum internal breadth of foot pockets (in mm) as well as the shoe size for which the fins are designed. The Hungarian distributors of Najade Standard fins, which are approved for international finswimming competitions, provide both the internal and the external dimensions of their five sizes of fins in millimetres. See below:

Is it beyond the wit of other fin retailers / manufacturers to follow suit so we can have proper objective measurements rather than a range of shoe sizes with occasional subjective descriptors such as narrow, regular and wide? I've tried bringing up this subject in Scubaboard's Manufacturers' Forum, sadly without receiving any response. It would save everyone a lot of money in return postage if this fitting data could be made more widely available...

Hi DRW & kwtony

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree that the manufacturers should supply some more info, especially as it can be very difficult to find footpockets to try on.

And thanks for the video as this seems to be the common way to make the Pathos fit properly.

If we're on the wishlist subject... what I would really like to see would be C4 footpockets made from 2 different materials, harder around the blade and sole but softer for the footpocket itself. This would remove loads of weight while providing really good support and comfort, and I've got a sneaking suspicion that not having rubber tendons would be a bonus too. Carbon is much springier than rubber after all so doesn't it make sense to have a blade designed to do all of the work without relying on tendons for support? If only C4 would develop that footpocket after so many years, hint hint!

Anyway, bit of a tangent. Anyone out there with narrow feet ever try pathos footpockets?

Cheers

Asking other people if they think a foot pocket will fit YOUR foot, is a question no one will be able to answer. Buy them from a place that allows returns or exchanges, No amount of asking on a forum will change how they are going to actually your feet. Just get them and move on...this is an imporant issues, but there is no need to over complicate it like you already have.

I have wide feet and Pathos fit me pretty well. The only problem with the Pathos in a carbon fin is that I don't believe they completely support the blade. They allow parts of the blade to flex too much which creates stress in that part of the blade. Which can cause your blade to break in that spot. I haven't had it happen to me but it's something to think about. If you want more info here's a thread from the Speardiver forum http://www.speardiver.com/fins/3145-pathos-foot-pockets-review.html (Stephan or other Mods - sorry if I'm not supposed to do that) Anyways, to answer your question, I don't think they'd fit narrow feet very well. If you want a light, narrow footpocket, I'd go with Beuchat. They're great quality and they seem to be fit for narrower feet.
