I'm a total beginner and is looking to get myself a speargun. Currently I'm looking at a 1.2m Pelaj Spekter. I know that there was a problem with the trigger mech in earlier guns, but believe it was resolve by Pelaj.

Can anyone that owns a Pelaj Spekter please give me some feedback.

Regards,

better options available on the market, is all i wil say. particularly is south Africa!

- Rob Allen
- Orca

for example are both excellent guns with a verys trong and reliable history

Get a local gun. Anything from Rabi, RA or Orca is a better bet and also cheaper. Between the three is mostly personal preference.

Thank you for the replies, appreciate it very much.

What is the reasons behind your recommendations? The main reason why I looking for more info is that I can get a new Spekter for halve the price of a similar Rabitech and Rob Allen. With this in mind would your recommendation still be the same?

I have tried other guns previously and came to the conclusion that the choice in speargun is mainly a personal preference thing (Unless there is sure reasons why not). This is what I would like to hear about. The sure reasons why not.

The Spekter is an excellent gun and is as good if not better then any gun on the market.

You are correct in that earlier releases did have problems however these have since been rectified since 2008.

Pelaj has a KISS lifetime warranty which should give you an indication of the confidence in the product.

Be aware of people who have agendas to push under the guise of "advice" Orca spears are actually made in the same factory that makes Pelaj spears!

Contact the South African distributor on + 27 723 724 396 or email divenleisure@telkomsa.net

Kindest regards

I don't like pelaj guns at all, and I do not recommend them.

Thank you Pelaj. I cetainly hope that you have confidence in your own guns. I know about the Kiss warentee and that is infact one of the reasons why I'm considering it. But still I need someone that is not involved with Pelaj but who's owning a pelaj gun to give me some honest feedback.

Spearojoe. Please give your reasons.

you gets what you pay for. there will be a reason why somethings cost more than others.

and spears being made in the same place is very different to the guns being of the same quality.

best option is to go and speak to the suppliers of the different brands available, most will let you try a gun out for comfort give them a try and buy the one yuo like best.

biggest advantage for the Orca/Rob Allen/rabitech guns are that they are well know and respected world over and in your case are built locally so aftersales support will be better than anything else.

but dont take it from me go and speak with the owners of these bussiness and you can actually get Rob to build YOUR gun for you the way you want it infront of you, cant beat that.

I've held pelaj guns, I know people who've used them and would never do so myself. The handle is terrible from an ergonomic point of view and the misfiring trigger mech problems basically mean that no real testing was done prior to release.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say something positive about Pelaj, except those at the company or sponsored by them. Not a great sign, really. Rob Allen is a solid, safe choice.

I seem to recall a forum member have to deal with returning a speargun last year and he got some service but did not appear to be fully satisfied - suggest you search for the thread to decide for yourself whether his expectations were reasonable.

I've had a speargun misfire & jam & fail to load, and it was one of the "more well known" suppliers mentioned above. It's not good but it happens, especially with wear.

If I was in SA, think I'd go for a local brand, Rabitech/Rob Allen/Orcas/Freediver. In the USA, perhaps the Taiwanese made Mako for this type of railgun.

Thank you for all the comments. Seems like the general recommendation is either a Rabitech/Rob Allen/Orcas/Freediver.
