I have a 12' portabote, mercury outboard, garmin fishfinder but I need a buddy. I'd like to fish between the Marloes peninsular and Manobier. Anyone up for it? Please PM or mail on fourtest466@hotmail.com

I'll be up in abersoch mid june. is that close??
Havnt seen a portabote in years. thougt you could only get them in the USofA

Hey Tim, was just looking at this porta-bote looks cool! How do you find it is with all you dive kit, and other people on board. What size engine do you have on it. Whats it like when the waves get up past flat calm? And how much is the 14fter (if you know)

Sorry for all the questions, was just thinking about getting ride of me inflatable and getting one....
thanks
Clive.

Hi Clive,

I have a 12 footer. On calm lakes and rivers I have taken four adults afloat but I wouldn't advise that loading at sea. I only take myself and my 8 year old son afloat and the 4hp (max recommended power) gets us up on the plane at probably 10-12 knots. With two adults it barely planes.

It's very seaworthy. In a chop the hull flexes which can be disconcerting but its nothing to worry about. With the full compliment of foam floatation it is said to be unsinkable but I havn't put it to the test yet...

The real advantages of the 'bote are two fold. Firstly, you can launch it almost anywhere. If a slipway wants to charge you a tenner, just carry the hull over the sea wall and thumb your nose at them! Secondly, storage and transportation are no longer a problem. The disadvantage is cost. The 'bote is very expensive.

I would caution against replacing your inflatable with a 'bote though. I am considering getting a 4 metre RIB and 25-30 hp as well.

If you want to take a look at the 'bote, you are welcome to join me for a session in Pembrokeshire. I launch at Stackpole Quay and fish under the Castlemartin range.

UK there is a bit of info on MrXs spearing boat thread page 4.
I also have the 12' porta, I have really given it a bashing over the years with motors far bigger than recommended. We often took her out to sea, 3 miles or more! I also tried surfing her down some sizable waves, great fun. She only ever filled with water once & that was while surfing.
Of course porta botes have there limitation's & it would be foolhardy to compare with a rib or such like. But they are serious fun :)

Hi Tim1,
I live in Wrexham but have family in Cardigan, and get down that way every month in the summer. Will pm you when I am down next as would love to get out on that stretch of coastline. Have done ok around Aberporth and Llangranog, with bass and pollack mainly.
Hopefully see you in a few weeks!!!

Dave
