People Familiar with Portland(UK)

Im just curious as to where are the best places to go around Portland. I've been off the Bill and down the bottom of westcliff a few times, but thats about it..I had a look around the Island today and had a walk down the back of the Y.O.I.(i think its called balaclava bay,not sure).looks ok down there(bit of a trek with all your gear though)..Anyone had any experience down there..

Very popular place for spearing and most people won't give up their 'top' spots . However I have had success around tar rocks and on the outside of the harbour arms (be wary of habour master though). Pulpit rock can be good but you might have to compete with the worm drowners.

Be very careful, don't go anywhere that has strong tides on your own and if you do go with someone else, make sure they know what they are doing and have done it before!!

Try Portland Harbour, just watch out for those pesky windsurfers!

Ok..im only really familiar with the tides where ive already been(P.Bill and westcliff). I'll make sure i have enough knowledge of the area before i set out..

All of the places I have dived in Portland have been ace - it's a spearo heaven, but as Flyflicker says do watch for the tides, they are VERY powerful around the island and switch direction pretty rapidly. Harbour's a good place to start out...

Don't be surprised when you do find one to encounter Podge or flyflicker sat on the bottom with a knife and fork waiting to claim their pound of flesh
