Just a theory but....If someone has low blood pressure would that mean that they would do better at freediving? I mean, isn't that the whole point of training, to slow your heartbeat which in turn lowers your blood pressure using less o2 therefore creating less co2?

Not that I have low blood pressure myself nor do I want to, just a theory.

Not sure about the diving impacts but a family friend in the US has unusually low blood pressure & pulse rate -- she is quite fit & healthy though, an active gardener not an athlete. She insists on only using natural full-fat products (milk, cream, etc.). They tried to treat her for the low blood pressure once but it made her ill so they stopped. She looks a little round (fat) but actually is not -- in fact she is very muscular, her chunky-looking arms are in fact large, solid muscle. Her son appears to have inherited something of this solidness, he looks small and slim but weighs noticeably much more than kids of similar size & build (he is healthy, active, energetic, bright & strong).

Yeah, that's interesting. It would be more interesting to see how a person like that would do in the water. I'm sure they're there, maybe a freediver will stumble upon this thread that has similar symptoms. I think the ONLY sport that kind of thing would benefit is freediving. Every other sport is usually pretty physical, whether it's running or football.

Cheers,
Chris

Actually the thing with the DR is :
A drop in heart rate
an INCREASE in blood pressure
Vasoconstriction (limbs)
Contraction of the spleen to release red blood cells.

The only advantage of having a low blood pressure (as i can see it) is to avoid pathological levels. I mean if you start out with a blood pressure on the borderline of what is healthy than you might suffer complications when the DR kicks in with the increase in blood pressure.

roflDamn, Eric is such a smart guy, I'm glad he's around. Well, that answers my question, thanks Eric Fattah.:) Might be nice to know which foods manipulate BP and which way, high or low. That's something we can all google though.rofl

Perow, you posted as I was editing.rofl That makes sense to me, for now anyway. I would still like to read further into this, either that or just post something on the previous thread so other people can view it. That's the only thing that I don't care for on these forums, the threads go away so fast.:head

Cheers,
Chris

Yeah, I saw that before. It just doesn't say how they manipualte BP, which foods do what. But, like I said above, that's something we can all google. Maybe I'll google it and post it back here, just for other people who are also curious.

Cheers,
Chris

I dunno, but most of the ones listed there are fine with me :p. Low blood pressure might mean an increase of salt is needed...darn :D.

Not sure about decreasing BP with food. It you are salt/sodium-sensitive though, salt will put it up. I don't think I am but I was waiting for somebody inside Jewel one day and tried the blood pressure machine out -- my BP was unusually high; I had been out for a Chinese meal the night before & put it down to mono sodium glutimate, as it was fine at other times.

i checked my blood pressure in a normal position NOW!!!, doing do nothing, just relaxing... Time now 01:45 pm and wake up today 09:00
HT=85 mmHg LT= 51 mmHg HB=51/min
HT:higt tension LT=low tension HB=Heartbeat ratio/min

The boy concerned is a keen swimmer...although I suspect he is not very buoyant. I thought Olympians (i.e. highly trained athletes) generally have very low resting heart rates...and you'd think low resting blood pressure too. I guess it depends on how low. I think Sedate must be in a coma rofl... or perhaps another plane (Erik?).

To administer a sedative to; calm or relieve by means of a sedative drug.
Serenely deliberate, composed, and dignified in character or manner.

You seem to be a very low pressure person. Normal values for HT are between 120 and 100, for LT between 80 and 60 and for HB between 75 and 50. Could be a good idea for you to try to measure your blood pressure again taking care about your position and technique. I think the tensiometer should be at heart level for better results.

50 times result avarages:

once i slip down in bath pressing the soap on the floor(did not see it) and injured my noise and more blood started coming ..i wanted to stop bleeding but i did not stop and i have had to go to hospital ..anyway..in hospital nurse meausured my blood pressure 4:00 Low High was 8:00 ..she lost..and bring 5 different tools measured againg and again the best low was 4.2 the best high was 8+ she said you must drink every day very salty things as much as you drink ..i never do it :D what she said! cos' i know that too much salt or salty things not good for eyes !
never see any pale on my face, never see myself notOK! i know it may be a disadvantage but still living and not over 3 times being in hospital all my life, it is very expensive(tests in hospital/s) when i get cold i get pill/s myself :D that's all!
my idea there is no any advantage all of these results for me or for someone else to hold breath or freedive
maybe there is a big disadvantage...no idea! :D

Wow!!!! I´m very surprised. You are a very low blood pressure person. The second one I´ve ever known. The other one is a friend that is like my mother, right now she is 70 years old and for prevention reasons she got a pacemaker about a year ago.

Of course i don´t want to scared you with it, i´m not a doctor. Her cardiologist more or less said, "when pleople is young, having a natural low blood pressure is an advantage for sports, but when people is getting older it could become problem". I understood that it could be a predisposition for sleeping apnea and other heart problems.

I think that would be interesting for you to get an appointment with a cardiologist just to be sure and have an idea on how to manage your special condition.

Sigi...

anyway..i will die one day...
1 day early! one day late! i do not care rofl

I also have low blood pressure. In my case it runs in the family. I don't know what effect it has on my diving...

Same here. My bp was 80 over 60 (or was it 40) the other day. Doc was concerned.
