It looks like I'll be needing a new suit for next year. My muscle are just too bodacious and my suit is tearing up in many places. rofl

Anyways, I was on Scubastore.com and saw the two types of suits offered. What's the difference between the termic line (~$245) and the non termic(~$175)?

I also saw a sporasub suit for $117. That sounds like a really good price. Anyone have any experience with the sporasub suits for use in Southern California?

All suits are 5mm. I currently have an old picasso and I like the flexibility, but it's not as warm as it use to be.

Thanks,
Nate

Too easy. I'll refrain from commenting... :naughty

One has a termic lining & one doesn't. :hmm

The only one I saw for $117 was a long john... I think it's for the bottom only since the jacket is for sale right above. In any case, Ken uses a 7mm up here & seems to like it.

Always glad to help! ;)

Termic means that the neoprene on the inside is smooth and has a sprayed on coating. This is supposed to make donning the suit easier and increase warmth. I don't believe that it actually increases warmth, as a regular bare-cell neoprene suit will seal better due to the 1000's of little split bubbles that will suck to your skin.
Both suits really need lube anyway, so the Termic is really a bit of a scam for the price.
I have one of those and a few other suits by the way.
The suit you have is not as warm as it used to be because the Yamamoto wears out faster, concurrent with the flexibility of the suit. Better off with a medium density suit (ie: Elios): it will not change buoyancy as drastically during the dive, and will last longer as well.
Sporasub makes great suits.
Peace,
Erik Y.

I second Erik's observations on termic vs. standard open cell. I bought into the hype & always belived termic was better; however, after trying both styles from 3mm to 7mm, realized that the regular open cell seals a lot better.

I didn't even tell you where the rips are appearing. Let's just say I have to sit cross legged. :king

Thanks. Your grasp of the obvious is impressive.

Oooh, glad you told me. I was wondering about that. why would they specifically say long johns on one and then say jacket on another.

I would've been pissed trying to dive in just the bottoms.

Seriously, thanks to both of you.
