I recently found a source for some really nice weights that might be of interest. I'm not quite sure where this thread best fits, so I guess I'll double posts in Freediving Equipment and Hunting Equipment in hopes of capturing both the pure freediver and the spearo audiences.

I guess the best place to start is to refer you to a thread on Spearboard where the weights are offered for sale.

[ame=http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=68872]More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size - Spearboard Spearfishing Community[/ame]

but I'll show some of the same photos that are on that thread.

The weights come in 2 pound and 1.25 pound sizes. The attached photos of plastic models show that they have sort of an hourglass shape in the top and bottom of the slots. When a rubber belt is stretched, the weight easily slide into position, but then when the belt is released, the weights are locked in place. I just set up my Rob Allen belt with these weights, and I love them. They don't take up space like the weights in which the belt weaves through, and they are very easy to install, remove, or adjust for position.

Jeff charges $7.50 each for the 2 pound size and $5 for the 1.25 pound size. He says he can get about 40 pounds in a flat rate USPS box for $10. Of course I don't know what it would cost for overseas shipping, but I suspect it would be prohibitive.

In the photo of my belt, don't let the stringer and the Carter spearfishing float confuse the issue. They have nothing directly to do with the weights.

I guess I should make it clear that I'm not selling these weights and have no financial interest in them. I paid full price for mine. Its just that I think they are the neatest thing since canned beer, and I wanted to pass the information along.

Edit- I just found out that Jeff is a member here. If you would like to PM him, his user name is Tin Man.

Boy it's days like this that make this forum great. The shifting weights problem has bothered me for a long time and the new tear drop weights seem to make things worse. I've tried everything. Everything except an inside wedge. That sure beats wrapping an inner tube around them like my last modification.
Thanks Bill
Thanks Jeff

im interested in the float that you got there. any details?

Its a Carter spearfishing float.

Spear Fishing Bouys Safety Sausage

I've added a tuna clip to it. My primary use is for when I have a fish wrapped up deep in the kelp. After braining the fish, I detach the shooting line from the reel line or float line, attach the tuna clip to the slip tip cable, and inflate the float so that it pulls the fish out of the kelp. On the occassions that it doesn't pull the shooting line out of the kelp, it at least pulls the fish up off the bottom so that its easy to see what kelp needs to be cut.

The 38 gram C02 cartridge fully inflates the float down to around 48 feet, and then a relief valve vents off the excess gas as it ascends.

It also has an oral inflation tube so that you can inflate it on the surface without wasting a cartridge. Its useful for attaching to a gun, or attaching to a float line or reel line.

I carry it in the belt holster that is sold for Riffe utility floats.

They are selling like hot cakes on Spearboard, and it seems like the California guys have really jumped on them. Every time Tim Man pours a new batch, they seem to sell out in a day.

thanks for clarifying bill. i thought it was some sort of safety float that you could deploy in case of swb for deep/long dives
