Anyone remember the scene in the movie The Abyss where they put a rat in liquid that is supposed to be saturated with oxygen, and then later Bud uses it in his diving suit? I heard over the years that this was supposed to be a real thing or that someone did invent a liquid that could be put into the lungs and provide oxygen exchange at high depth. Or that the scene with the rat in the liquid was real (even though it was out of shot in the film).
Does anyone here know if that was a real invention or ever actually used by people? I'm guessing it wasn't too efficient or we'd be using it now, no?
