pirates seize ship

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The most recent news is that US Navy have fired on the pirates who have seized the ship. I wonder what the hell Russian Navy is doing. Rather than have an aircraft carrier group cruise the Med, it should have dispatched a ship or two to this area.

I haven't heard anything else about Fred other than that he is ok and being fed etc seems the activiity is hotting up over there. but his vessel doen't seem to be involved in the reports where the US intervened.

At least that's some good news. Hopefully this will end soon and in a positive way.

Feargus hope your mate goes on OK and the whole thing ends in a decent manor and with NO problems.
Best
Paul

Are you Russian? Why do you badmouth the Russian navy? By what knowledge or authority can you question or criticize their strategic or tactical decisions? I can assure you the decisions were made on a much higher level than you can imagine and much more factors were considered than what comes to your mind.

It is indeed good news!
The bad news is that a 700,000 usd ransom has been reportedly paid, which encourages pirates to do more of these things, which is not good, no matter how nicely they treat the captured sailors (btw - the good words that the crew might have about their captors could be result of the so-called Stockholm syndrome)
I would have sent a ship or two to press them into releasing the crew. Afterall, pirates are not suicide bombers - they would not want to die or lose their own vessels for the sake of keeping hostages.

I am a Russian citizen who has been researching the issue of piracy. And what are you, may I ask? An admiral who calls the shots on how to fight piracy? And who told you that criticisim is badmouthing? Or do you believe that any view dissenting from the official position is badmouthing? I don't buy your assurances. They contradict what I have read in the independent Russian media on the Russian Navy's failure to respond, which contrasts with the Soviet navy's response:
see here, for instance,
Ðóññêèé Newsweek / Ãëîáóñ
Ðîññèéñêèé ÂÌÔ íå îòðåàãèðîâàë íà ïèðàòîâ
These are Russian-language articles, which I guess you will be able to read, since part of your invective was in broken Russian.
However, if you have got anything else to say to me on this forum, stick to the language of the forum, which is English.

Yup Hyeparis is our very own ruthless communist dictator, you can tell by the size of his hat but as ruthless communist dictators go he is a really well informed and intelligent sort of guy and good all round dude!

And I couldn’t agree more.

Not to step on any toes (especially Trompie, the Russian from S.A. ;)), but why is no one b!tch!ng about U.S. intervention here? Again, no offense intended, I really am interested in others' views on this. From what I understand, other countries generally dislike our meddling in their affairs...

Rick I for one think that you yanks are great.
Only ever been lucky enough to visit your Country the once and I had a brilliant time.
All the people I met were very friendly and most of them could understand the English language after a while.
With my slight Somerset accent myself and the friend I was with kept getting mistaken for Australian (especially after a few drinks).
We even met a family in an elevator who gave it the "you guys are English aren’t you I mean English, English"
Well after the proper introduction had been made they invited us out for a slap up meal which didn’t cost us a penny.
The only difference being our sense of humor being a little drier than yours.
I think that you all mean well with the global police thing even if there is the occasional cock up, your hearts are always in the right place.
For me the USA and the fine people (well the ones that I was fortunate enough to meet) that live there are spot on.

Rick since Paul has started this thing, lthen I really have to say: same here!
I've lived about half my life near US army, navy or air force bases in Italy and I've always had american neighbours: best neighbours I've ever had, open hearted and with deep human values.
I may disagree (and I do disagree) with many political and strategic decisions taken by your present government (and by some of the previous gorvernments), but if we're talking of people, oh well, Americans are in my heart.

Uhhhhhh, gotta make at least some apology for that one!:head I was more than a bit pissed last night (That proper English for 9 Newcastles, Paul?;)) while hanging out with some old Navy buddies.

Thanks for the encouragement, though. :)

Ah nine bottles of the old wife beater rofl:hungover
If ever you’re over here mate give me a shout and the drunken Spaniard and myself will happily introduce you to the ways of Cider. Not that pretend stuff that you can buy anywhere but the proper stuff that’s fermented with dead rats in barrels that are older than most Countries.:friday:friday:duh:blackeye:D

Stating an opinion pro or con, should not invite disparaging comments 'IMHO'. I absolutely agree with Hyeparis' thought about the lack of participation on the part of the Soviet Navy. We all would say the same thing concerning our respective countries. None of us know about the last minute communique among global leaders surrounding that incident. What I do know about Hyeparis is; He is a writer, speaker, internationally educated, and a sought after lecturer. So in my view, his opening comment is the beginning of a brilliant conversation! Echoing Pastor's humorous description, I say, "Yeah, but he is our ruthless communist dictator";)
