Hi all

Forgive me, I am new here so if someone has already asked this, then I am sorry.

I have never dived before but I am a good swimmer. I have a fear of sharks that I really want to overcome so my fiancée suggested that I do a cage dive on our honeymoon (in March 2005).

We're looking to go for a honeymoon somewhere on one of the Greek islands and was wondering if there were any cage diving operators that would take an inexperienced diver out in a cage?

I do not want to SWIM with the sharks, just go down in a cage.

What kind of sharks could I see?

Thanks :)

Is there really sharks in mediterranea??
I have been there many times, and never seen those.
I believe there are some blue sharks and the odd hammerhead. I also spoke to someone at work and he said he has read that there are about 4 great white sharks passing into that area recently...
I have never heard of anybody offering shark cage dives in the med, as far as most divers are concerned, the med is dead. There is not a lot of life in there (of course there is the odd 'biggy'). The very clear water is part of the problem, not a lot of nutrients you see. The only places you can regularly go shark cage diving are south africa and australia. There really are very few sharks in the med, there are not a huge amount in the northern red sea either, and that is warmer and has more fish (fish = shark food).
If you wanna dive with sharks in a cage, go to south africa, although I feel that using a cage is cheating.
From my marine biology days I seem to remember that the population of GWSs in the Med was about 300 indicduals. They do not really go around in groups and are very spread out. Therefore no one can offer a cage diving experience with them - as it would be tremendously unsuccessful!

From their biology, I would expect the GWSs to be more concentrated in the Western Med.....and that's probably less tahn 1 shark per 1000 square miles of sea!
