Hi guys,

I'm from the UK so don't really know much about Hawaii aside the amazing things I've seen on the TV.

I was wondering if someone could tell which of the islands is the best for spearfishing or are they all pretty similar, and could anyone recommend a spearfishing company to arrange some trips with when I holiday over there?

Thanks guys!

Tony

The big island, Kona Coast, is terrific. They typically get the best conditions and visibility, and their shoreline is steep, meaning it is possible to shoredive and find big pelagics. It is also a touch more rustic than other islands so lodging and food are less. A car/vehicle is a necessity, bike will not cut it.

Honaunau Bay is where many competitions are held, there are permanent moorings (to a bottom 60M+ deep) a few minutes kick from shore with near daily classes and informal trainings held there. Viz is 30M on a so-so day, 15M when it is stormy.

I was only there for competition but managed to do some spearing and I talked to freedivers/spearos from all he islands. Kona hunting is deep, you need to hunt 25M+ to have hope of game fish, although bathwater conditions and viz make it relatively easy to dive deep.
