Plymouth Freediving Club

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
After all this time I still haven't met up with anyone

The pool at Plympton will hire a lane out at £30 for an hour. After sorting the risk assessment I did a solo session and they were totally happy. If anyone is interested I can set up a session.

I'll also approach the life centre again and see if they are cheaper.

Count me in for sea sessions. I have two kayaks which might be useful.

At Saltash Leisure Centre (in Saltsah obviously), we hire out a lane for private use for £17 p/h. Its a 25m pool with a 1.8m deep end and 0.9m shallow end. Long blades and monofins can be used in a private hire lane.
Our pool is used regularly by scuba divers, so all the relevent risk assessments are in place.
If anyone wants to know more, just phone the centre, ask to speak to Chris and I'll see what slots are available.
There is normally an hour slot between 5-6 and 8-9 on Saturdays.

That sounds brilliant, 8-9 would be easier to keep free I think (in terms of social life). Who would like to go if that can be arranged?

Hey, that's brilliant! Thank you! I'm up for a session at Saltash this Saturday 8-9am.
I did also contact the life centre at the end of last week and I'll let you know if I get some news.

If you do get a response from the life center let me know and I'll send you on the risk assessment I did for Plympton pool. It's based on a version given to me by Freedive UK so it's pretty thorough.

Hi Guys and Gals
FannyApnea has contacted me about using the pool Saturday evening between 8pm and 9pm. She has said I can provide her phone number via PM to anyone who wants to meet up with her for a dive session. Obviously the more that attend, the cheaper it is for everyone as you only pay for the lane.
If anyone needs any more info, post here or PM me.

That's great thank you. I should be able to make it, but is there a way to get to it from plymouth? is it near saltash station or are there buses near by.... could anyone please help?

That's brilliant, thank you Trelawney. However, I can not make this Saturday, but next Saturday I am back at uni and am very keen. I hope you guys can get enough people for this week.

Hi, thank you Trelawney for your help. Indeed if anyone is interested to have a session this Saturday, please feel free to contact the Saltash Leisure Centre and ask for my number so we can get organised. I'll be driving from Plymouth so I should be able to give a lift if needed.

cave_raver: thank you very much for offering to provide the risk assessment form. I'll definitely let you know if I have some news from the Life Centre. In the meantime, would you be interested to do a session on Saturday evening 8-9pm in Saltash? I can do this Saturday and/or next Saturday.

Hi,
Training session between 5-6pm at Saltash Leisure centre for this Saturday (11th January). Anyone who wants to join, please don't hesitate to get in touch or come to the pool
So far there will be cave_raver and myself.
Cheers, Fanny

Hey! Thanks Trelawney
Freediving session went really well. We met up with cave_raver at the Saltash Leisure Centre. We had a swim lane between 5-6pm just for us. So we did a short warm-up swim and then some series of 25m fin swimming under water with 1min surface recovery.
We used our bi-fins and monofin and it was great to get some practice. The pool staff was super friendly and it felt safe the whole time.
Overall, super positive experience. I am very keen to set up regular training sessions, so if anyone is interested please get in touch. I'm happy to book the swim lane for next Saturday (18th January).
Cheers, Fanny

Ah and I meant to say that cave_raver is a super nice freediving buddy! It was great meeting you, thank you so much for coming to the pool! I really hope that we'll meet again for some training

An excellent venue, quiet with easy going and helpful staff. I've never done any proper training in a pool but Fanny had some great ideas. I tried to keep up her but I think I'll need a few more sessions

Fanny - Definitely up for meeting again but due to other weather dependent commitments I won't know until about two days beforehand. It was great to meet you and thanks once again for actually organising something. The rest of us just talked about it Hopefully we can get a few more coming.

I'm happy you enjoyed our centre. We have the same slots available this coming Saturday, 5-6 and 8-9.
I'll be working in the evening so I'm looking forward to meeting some of you if you come back.
Cheers
Chris

Excellent! So the lane is now booked again at Saltash Leisure Centre for a freediving session 5-6pm on Saturday 18th.
Very much looking forward to it and meeting you all. Cave_raver, I hope that you can make it. Browner will be coming too

Really good session at Saltash pool yesterday! Browner and I did some series of 25m with 45s recovery, and then some series of 30-45s breath hold followed by 25m swim under water. It was great training, we both enjoyed it a lot We also had the chance to meet and chat with Trelawney, which was great.

The swim lane is booked at Saltash Leisure Centre for Saturday 25th January 7:30-8:30pm (only time slot available). Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to come, all welcome
