Hello all. I am completely new to this, but I'd like to purchase a pole spear as a beginner. There are several out there, and I am getting confused on which one to go with. Can some of you with experience throw some names at me of quality spears that are great for a low budget?

Also, has anyone fished off the beach in the Gulf of Mexico? Or, is that not a good spot for spearing?

I am sure this pole spear question has been asked a million time sin here, so thanks for your time and patience!

Ben

I've had good luck with the JBL and "Linghunter" pole spears.

my preference to the Linghunter spears. you can find him on ebay. nice bit of kit and he'll custom make whatever you want. price is very very good too.

Last year i was new at the sport too, and with that in mind I was searching just for functionality and not for name brand. Instead i bought a six foot paralyzer tipped pole spear from Amazon.com it was very cheap $40 and though it was not able to break down for storage it has proven to be quite reliable and very effective in taking down some nice sized fish. Plus you can always bring it along to get a buddy interested in the sport when youre ready for a more expensive model like the Manny Puig. Take a look for yourself

Hey thanks for the help and replies all.
Does anyone have any input on Destin beach/surf spearing?
I plan on giving it a try in August, and wondered if anyone had done that?
I know that there are better places to try than the sandy shores of Destin, but I will be with a wife, young baby and friends and will not time to do any deeper dives.

I am corresponding with him now. Thanks!!:)

He is very helpful and easy to work with. He is putting together a package that would work well for me. When I get it, I'll a pic.
