pole spear question

will 1" aluminum tube work. I found 3 pieces 24" long that thread into each other.
I have made a 1/2" 6' pole already.
 
what are you shooting ? thats as large as the barrel on my aloy gun
 
I'll be shooting pan fish and carp.
Like I said I have a 1/2" polespear.
I just found some 1" tube that was threaded and thought it would work.
What do you think?
 
a one inch diameter cross section will push a lot of water, man. My experience making homemade polespears suggests that the larger the cross section of the shaft, the slower it travels. It's friction . . . no denying physics. You can power up with a heavier or shorter band, but then you quickly run out of the hand strength needed to control it.

The thicker/heavier shaft will hit fish hard, but it will be too slow to catch some of them. I'd stick with a 1/2 inch or smaller diameter. if you want it stiffer, go with a 3/8 inch aluminum or fiberglass rod and laminate it with a woven carbon fiber sock and epoxy (http://www.sollercomposites.com,carbon fiber,carbon fiber sleeve,Kevlar sleeve, fiberglass sleeves,carbon fiber fabric,epoxy,west system epoxy,nitrile,gloves,nitrile gloves,aramid,fiberglass,kevlar,tape,biaxial tape, biaxial sleeve). Now you are talking . . . good weight but narrower cross section equals massacred fish!
