What you folks would normally use for shaft? And what to use for rubber strings, I would guess surgical tubing but maybe there is something better? Just don't want to re-invent the wheel. Thank you in advance

mako has a really cool little 3-pc travel spear setup I've got my eye on...

I use 6061 aluminum tubing, normally used in airplane frames, for my shaft. The front section has wood dowl inserted and epoxied in for strength. The back is open. The front of one has a 3-prong Kawabanga's tip I got through HanaPaa spearfishing in Hawaii, while the other 2 have a single flopper fixed tip (Ray Odor and Gat-Ku store bought pole spears)
My bands are 3/8 inch surgical tubing available from quite a few sources, like spearitco in the US. Most divers (me included) can't hold anything heavier. I tie it for about 3X stretch, and have the hand hold between 1/2 and 2/3 of the way forward.
