Alright! so after thinking alot i decided to make my pole spear much more powerful. I personally don't like the gun, i enjoy the challenge, yes spear guns also give u a challenge underwater but with a pole spear you would need to be able to get closer to a fish then with a gun. So i have a 6ft jbl fixed spear pole with 2 bands, what do you guys think?

Pole Spear with 2 bands??

Why do you have 2 bands? If it's for greater range, then why object to a speargun due to its range?
As Agbiv says, if you catch fish with it and prefer it - great. Pole spear is cool if you can catch fish with it (I haven't tried one but I reckon it would be difficult in the poor vis. we have - on the other hand, that does tend to make close shots more common). I guess using a simpler, more basic approach to achieve similar results will always be cool - part of the attraction of a band-gun vs. a pneumatic for me ( or bow vs. crossbow/arbalete vs. airgun vs. SBS-shotgun vs. pump-action shotgun vs. automatic shotgun...

well then im maybe saying it wrong, i don;t like using the gun well also cuz im better with a pole and ive caught a about 31 pound white sea bass with it, im puting 2 badns for power and range, i was so lucky to get a white sea bass, from pretty close, he was laying behind the kelp so i sneaked up on him, but yea u don't think 2 bands for range is good?
I had the same issue with a home made spear I constructed for big grouper and used to have to use 2 bands to get real power as off the shelf pole bands are only 3/8" thick. However it was more of a pain to cock it quickly so instead of 2 bands I just bought some bulk 5/8" thick walled gun band and made up my own bands. The single band is a bit more difficult to cock than the 2 store bought pole bands and the power is great. The spear is made with a 6 foot length of 1/2" stainless steel tubing with a 4 foot 3/8" thick tuna gun shaft inserted a foot into it and then drilled and spot welded. Its a lot heavier than a jbl.
To make your own bands on the cheap just use some 600 - 1000 lb parachute cord and make short lengths (4"- 5") and tie figure 8 knots in each end. Then the hard part, stuff the knots about 1.5" into the end of the power band then use heavy duty black marine zip ties around the band to prevent the knots from pulling out under load. This has worked like a charm for me and I can get a season or 2 out of 1 band.
