Polespear Fishing-giving the fish a chance?

^^ like he said to stop the bending. just one twist or even less, also puts a "spin" on the shaft that may help it go straighter.

tip: put the pole together and pull it back to your normal firing position, note where your hand is, mark the point. Get some nice cord, about 1/8" (2 or 3mm) and tape one end in that area and make a nice spiral, with the coils about 1" apart. Cover the whole cord spiral thinly with tape (you want to see and feel the spiral, just one or two wraps of tape): presto an extra grippy hold position for more relaxed grip and "spin enhancer" in flight. Of course you must wrap the bands on the shaft in a complementary direction.

Tips and (and sea horse pole spear!) thanks to my pole spear guru and buddy mr Leo Muraoka
