Hi!
I’ve been looking for a decent polespear for quite a while. On the US market, there are a lot of different products and cheep too, but no one retail them on the EU market, it seems.
Have any of you stumbled across any polespears sold from a webshop in the EU?

What I’m looking for is something like the Manny Puig Signature from OMER or something with the approx same specs. It doesn’t have to be just as expensive – though foldable is preferred ;)

Hi C-X , welcome to db . Apnea Online Store of Jersey have the Foldspear , it's 6ft/1.8m long and costs £70/81 euros. I don't know anything about polespears so can't help you as to if it's any good , can't seem to do a link to it either , oh and they only have gold ones ( colour I guess ) .

Hi

Thx mate! I’ve already seen that though. And it is the only one I’ve seen sold in the EU, which doesn’t look like a toy. However it’s hard to guess if it its strong enough and still somewhat expensive, given that I’ll also have to buy a threaded adaptor (7 to 6 mm), a threaded spear and a spearhead.

Maybe it's just my ignorant bone aching here, but I don't think there's any european manufacturer of polespears at all (or at least, not that I've heard of).
In facts, Omer itself does not offer the Manny Puig's in its international site: it's a specialty from Omer USA, not on sale in Europe as far as I know.
Me I got my polespear from JimDoe2you (shipped from Florida). Amazing bit of kit by the way.

My local pusher couldn’t sell me an OMER polespear either, exactly due to what you explained, Spaghetti.
I think there is something wrong, when a polespear cost the same or more than a quality speargun. It must be cheaper to make. Been thinking a lot about making a few myself, but I don’t have access to the tools I need for the job.

further more where can i get a single tip with the latch thing for a polespear? (anything simliar to manni's)

kenny

I just bought a polespear from aaron crist crist spears. should arrive today, well I think it's comparable to the manni pole, he has a comparison with it on his site, well the tips anyway. Mine was a custom order I wanted a longer spear than what he had, price was better than anything I could get here, maybe the same for you?

The cheapest though would be ray odor spears, good spears by all accounts, just maybe not the nicest looking. But I can't say either way.

The fold spear? I imagine it would have more flex than a threaded pole, and I guess shorter to? Handy for some, but no serious enough for me. Check out the above and get a quote you might be surprised.

I like my Ray Odor. I can use it with either a slip tip or a fixed tip. it's entirely functional, although not as sexy as my carbon fiber/aluminum composite. Not as fast either, but it does fine killing fish.

Hey HTEAS, what is your carbon fiber/aluminum composite pole ?sounds good do you have a link for it, who makes it?
cheers.

i assume he is talking about something like this
Hanapa'a Fishing - KAWABUNGA GRAPHITE/ALUMINM SPEAR
there are a couple of different manufactures in hawaii but i beleve that pole spears or as we call them 3 prongs are used much more often here than most other places
i was supprised at the thickness of the spears that are most commonly sold off island. ours are all less than 1/2 inch thick which makes them very fast in the wate.r

Monchan
Here's the one I have
http://www.gat-ku.com/
It's made in San Diego, but is similar to the Hawaiian ones.
It's fast, has good penetration, and lived through the first summer of abuse.
I got an 8' take down model, and bought fixed tip and slip tip for it. The slip tip works really well, but is hard to thread back through the skull of a rockfish. There's plenty of penetration, like all the way through a 5 lb rockfish skull. I haven't tried the fixed tip yet, but assume it will work well for the fish we chase here (rockfish to 8 lb, lingcod and greenling, and the odd salmon that comes by too close.

almost all the pole spears here are have the three prong tip and they are used much more than guns here although most of the legit speros have guns but i think that because of the mass of a pole spear it has very good penetration

Hey guys thanks for the links, I'd seen the gat-ku before, but my pc wont open their site anymore? The kawabunga looks good and cheep too but I've recently gone off my three prong and am using a flopper at the moment.

I got my aaron crist pole yesturday and had to take it out today, it's a bloody monster, the dimensions not what I expected (cant get my head round the us metric system) It's thicker than I thought, and has more wieght than I'm used to.
Took it out this morning for an hour got four fish, and I have to say the thing is a killing mechine. it's punch is so powerful and almost has the range of my gun.
9ft pole + 2ft of shaft. the one problem I found and will take getting used to is, the power.

I got quite close to a big sea bream closer than they usually allow, the pole was fully cocked BAM in the head and eyes the thing was instantly swimming to fish heaven.
it has so much power the tip went right through the fish and about 1ft of pole leaving about a 20mm hole in the fish's head. The grip on the pole is quite long so for the other fish I got I could adjust the pull I had on the rubber reducing the power somewhat and safely landing the fish without a peephole. But wow it felt good to use, and it makes my last pole look and feel like a lego toy. after one hour of use,
recommended, it's a nice bit of kit.

After this thread started I started thinking. I went back to the Ray Odor, leaning abused in the corner. I've had it out two days recently. Boy does it hit hard. I just got the fextended fixed tipo so it's 8 1/2 feet long now. I only ran the 5/8" shaft through one fish, but all of them gave up quickly. Massive stopping power. It's now back in my number one spot for Alaska, ahead of the Gat-Ku and even my Rob Allen 90
