Hi

I am looking to do more regular dives - shore and boat - any spearo's in PE looking for fit, keen dive buddy - contact me

Thanks Capespearo - I know Gletwyn, have recently done his spearfishing course and email and chat to him often. I read his blog regularly. I have a few potential dive buddies, but they do not appear to share my enthusiasm or commitment. I will seek out a local club as the next alternative. I have been spearfishing since 13 years of age, and recently decided to make a decent go of things - hence fitness and training. I have also bookmarked Coatesman - thanks Capetownguy

Capespearo - I notice the wording under you post "You guys are going spearfishing ? But where are are your tanks ?
confused.gif
". I had a fisherman ask me (on Saturday, on my way across the rocks to the water) how much air / airtime I had in my float and how long can I stay under with the air in the float - so I stupidly start to say it is a 5litre (I think it is) float, then I said a minute or two. I just left it - some people (without being nasty) just have no idea how it all works.

That's half the problem the sport faces, people are not educated about it or are plain ignorant, most think the fish swims right in front of your spear and all you have to do is pull a trigger.Try asking someone who thinks like this to get in water and hold their breath, they normally wouldn't get past thirty seconds, only then do they realise that this "thing" is not so easy ...............:head

It seems to me that PE has quite a loyal spearfishing following - over the years I have run into many people who have tried the sport. General public have limited knowledge - yip the fish climbs onto the spear. My problem is that I am looking for a dive buddy with experience, I am not keen to train someone else - one of the chaps that wants to go dive has extremely small fins - yes they work, but are inappropriate in my humble opinion and if he wants to party on a Friday night then I don't want to go diving with him the next day at first light - risk to me and him

Ahoy Zack, you new in PE? Anyhow, I've been diving here for a while and also looking for more people to dive with as my other dive buddies have either left for bluer water or just lack commitment (slackers!!). What you do for fitness? There's underwater hockey at the university every Tues and Thursday night..very good for increasing your breath hold stamina. Sea looks like it'll be good this weekend and there's still some nice cracker and tail around so now is the time! let me know if you are keen

Hi Chris

I have sepnt 38 years in PE, no I am not new in PE.

Fitness - cardio 4 nights a week at gym 1.75hours. Treadmill 20minutes, bicycle 20 minutes, spinning bicycle 20 minutes, couple of free weights, then 2.5kms on treadmill in 7 minutes, then another 20 minute bicycle ride, few more weights etc.

Never tried underwater hockey - university on on other side of town.

The sea has been pretty lousy of late. Where do you dive? Boat / shore?
Zane

Holy mackerel, I don't think you'll have a problem fitness wise!
Most of my diving at the moment is based from the shore (so fitness is good). One of my mates has a boat, but he's been in durbs for a while and is back in PE now, but alas only for a short while. However there's another guy I met recently with a boat so hopefully will get to dive with him soon. I pretty much dive wherever the sea is good-bay or wildside. I've been diving on my ace quite a bit lately so it would be nice if I've got another mate to phone when the sea looks good.
If you ever feel like making an effort to come play hockey let me know, it's definitly a good way of getting diving fit.
If you keen we can maybe get a dive in this weekend, so far the prediction looks good. I'm however working in the mornings by the looks of things...so will have to be in the afternoon. I'll pm you my cell#...

I am off to gym - at this time of night there are no girls to motivate a man. Got your cel # - will call you soon. I am off Friday and am hoping for some good diving - want to head out at Suicide reef for some cracker. Most of my diving has been alone since the start of the year - dark cold places :martial I also want to reduce my odds with the wolves so dive buddy is good. We can chat about the u/water hockey
