Hey All,

I'm coming over from Canada for the month of September and should have a lot of free time to explore and dive while my girl visits her family. Her family is form the Aveiro area so i was hoping that it would be possible to to find decent diving around there. I'm willing to travel wherever though, even considering the Azores. If anyone is interested in meeting up for shore diving or even a boat rental I'll bring the beer! Minho portugese es malo, but i did once take lessons so it might come back to me.
Also, I'm wondering what size wetsuit i need for around there? and whether its worth bringing a 90cm and 120cm? I love how the 120cm compensates for my lack skill, but the 90 travels so much better, heheh. Thanks in advance for any input. cheers.

Kalle

Hi,
Currently im not in portugal but i think i could help u by at least reply a couple of your questions..
Since by september the water is still warm i suggest a 5mm wet suit however keep in mind that in aveiro the water temperature is lower than in south as Algarve or Azores, if you want to go to the best diving spots u better go to Azores, and maybe u would be better with a 120cm gun if you plan to go to azores however the 90cm would also be a wise choice if u dive by portugal mainland so probably i would stick to the 90... all the way from lisboa to algarve by the alentejo coast its also nice there but plenty of places where spearfishing is illegal so better check it out first it is a wise choice!!

hey thank you! Ya, i'm thinking i'll mainly be shore diving as i am going to be soloing it mostly it looks like and it'll be in the south more. i will keep my eye out for the restricted areas, thanks.

HI,

I will be in Portugal too at the end of August. I will be in Faro (Algarve). Do you have any advices to find a buddy and/or where are the good places to fish there?

Thank you in advance guys!

Ah too bad! I'm not there 'till sept. good luck and calm waters.

Shoots,

Kalle

I'm headed to Lagos for 10 days in the end of November, how was it? Any pointers? I'd love to meetup with someone that knows the area.

Hi Darian,

I advise you to go to Sagres (southest point of Portugal) and to go on the left from/or right from Fortaleza de Sagres, depending on the current (which can be very strong in Praia do Tonel downside the fort, be careful!!). The guy I met there isn't anymore in the south of Portugal. You can do as me, that is ask some person there to go with/or to borrow a speargun. I 've never seen so much fish before: sea bass, sargo sea bream,…But I don't think the end of november is a good period there, as far as I heard there, due to waves, currant, visibility.

Hope this will help you!

Thanks! I'm there on a surfing trip so waves are a good thing. I"ll check out Sagres and see if I can talk to some locals.
