Heyo,
Been lurking on Deeper Blue for a while but finally just joined. My name is Brent, and I'm a journalist, fairly nomadic but most of the time (especially Fall/Winter/Spring) I'm in Malibu and that area. I'm currently in Alaska for the summer, but I'll be back in SoCal in mid-September and I'd love to have more dive buddies so I can get out more frequently.
I've got my FII Freediver Level 1 certification, so I'm especially interested in diving with folks (men/women/non-binary = all good) who are safety-focused, know buddy-system/rescue protocol (though hopefully we never need it), and have an orientation toward conservation/sustainability.
I'm very new to spearing (though I have a decent polespear setup w/ float, etc), and I'd really love to learn from more experienced spearos out there. Promise I won't act like a kook. I've been doing a lot of research on it regarding best-practices, and I hope to take FII's Spearfishing course in the near future. Would love to dive with someone who knows what they're doing, though.
I'm also interested in underwater photography/videography. Currently just using a GoPro Hero7 Black, but I'm hoping to get a housing for my big-boy camera (Sony A7Riii) in the near future.
That's about it, so... Who wants to go for a swim?
Cheers,
Brent
