Went spearfishing a couple of days ago and decided to use a new set of Riffe Power Bands for the Competitor #3. The bands had been stored for a very long time in a ziplock bag that had come from the dealer when I bought the gun. I had been using the black Riffe bands but thought that it was time to use the new amber ones.

Well, while cocking these on a dive, the first one went well. The second one snapped apart from the point where the wishbone had been tied down. These bands had never been used.

I guess it was because of the way it was stored. I remember taking it out once and rubbing silicon grease on it before resealing it in the ziplock bag.

How can one store power bands (used or new) for a long period?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Spar,

Thank you for your response. I have heard that too from friends and will probably try it.
