I just read a thread about sharks and what to do with them when they come around and such, when i came across a powerhead. WHat is a powerhead?

a powerhead is a device that alows you to mound a rifle or pistol cartige to the end of your shaft.

definatley what amphibious said. they are illegal in alot of the world but not here in the US. They work well as a shark deterent...keeps them from messing w/ anyone else after they mess w/ the wrong person :)

They work not by the bullet but by the gas expansion the charge creates in the fish.

Huh? Maybe it's a state by state thing. AFAIK they are illegal in Florida. I know of one guy who wasn't allowed on the boat until he put away the powerhead. On another instance my local shop sold these frequently but strongly advised customers against using it locally.

spearing fish on them is illegal in certain waters, not owning/carrying them. TONS of people in FL use them for personal protection.

Ok. That sounds about right.:)

Do not use your power head around rocks or wrecks because the shaft comes straight back at you if you miss the fish and hit something hard.

Power heads are legal in California but illegal in Mexico.
