When practicing in a pool-
Always check in with the lifeguard and tell them what you're doing before any apnea training.
Never practice alone without other swimmers knowing what you're doing.
Never practice static apnea alone. Always have trained buddy or spotter at your side.
Another good habit: practice competition recovery by signaling (and now saying) "OK." It engages the lifeguards and will help you in a competition.
