I'm looking for some good low-tempo music to relax to before my freediving sessions.

What do you people listen to before a dive?

Jean-Michel Jarre's "Waiting for Cousteau" is always good. The fourth number on that album is 40 minutes long and slow as a political process.
The soundtrack to "The Big Blue" is also valid. Something by Enya, too.

But there's no standard. I've heard people listening to heavy metal before a world record dive.

In Aarhus WC I listened to Aretha Franklin and Audioslave:blackeye When I`m as excited as I was before the performances in Aarhus I find it just annoying when everything is slow and careful and "everyone tells me to relax." Then I`d rather have something noisy to isolate all the sounds and feel strong and confident.

I have quite a few, usually instrumental post-rock, some movie soundtracks and minimalist pieces.

Lately been listening a lot to Jakob on my way to dives or right before.

(not an official video, but plays the whole track, great cd btw, highly recommend it)

The soundtrack for the movie 'Solaris' by Cliff Martinez very often
good example: ([ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StICDw9aCYQ]YouTube - First Sleep - Solaris Score by Cliff Martinez [HD][/ame])

and of course my favorite piece of music ever composed:
Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians...all 57 minutes of it. Some call it maddening, for me its amazing:

Music is huge for me...when I feel im in that 'zone', music is constantly playing in my head, and it becomes both an amazing tool to relax as well as good markers of how I feel (hard to explain).

oh wow...had no idea it would embed the youtube stuff automatically from the links o_O

i listen to Guns n Roses...the Mellow or Hard Rock tracks seem to work for me...Everyone is different ..right!!!:blackeye

I don't know if there is A pre-freediving music. I think nobody should force him/herself to listen to what the most of the people like, but to what he/she LOVEs! :) So there's no special musi, but what makes you feel good.

hi

may i resurrect this thread with boris' masterpiece ?
the first section'll drive most people crazy and it gets pretty intense at points, but stick with it for the duration if you can. for me, this piece encapsulates the things i love about being in the water more closely than anything else i've ever heard.
