Discussion on DB SpringJam in March '07

Hi there,

I'd just like to point all of You to my invitation to a DB-meetup here in Konstanz.

EDIT: some additional and unimportant info on centers of Europe here:

Technically, the middle of Europe is close to some small village in Switzerland, I heard but was proven wrong, it seems.
However Konstanz is close to the geographical center of the European Union (which is close to Frankfurt as trux found out), so that's close enough, I think.

And all of this is not the point. :t

We'll just see if we can't make Konstanz the center of freediving Europe for the time... :D
Hoping for a big gig with lots of people joining in,

Would have loved to come across and have a dip in your pool but this years away days are already taken sorry mate maybe next year.

Richard would love to come - will be flat out with Emma Farrell (no, podge, not what you're thinking!) the whole month of March - she is making her debut in Dubai in Freediving by setting up courses and also giving me a fantastic head start. We hope to get many customers - there seems to be a big interest already.

Have a fantastic time!

Bad boy Podge! Sorry Sanso but I've already signed on to the Guernsey DB pis.. I mean hunting trip. 'tis a good idea though

would have loved to come but i cant even get the cape town db members to hookup and we are all within 60km's of each other :(

Not sure if I'll be able to come, but thanks for organizing it anyway.

BTW:

Not sure what Europe exactly you speak about, but unless you consider everything east of Germany being already Asia (like many Germans use to do), then the geographical center of Europe is some 1000km more east :). The exact point differs on the chosen method, so there are different places claiming the proud title - from villages in Lithuania, Estonia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland to Belarus, but all of them are pretty far east from Konstanz. You can read more about it for example here:

Hm... Isn't Guernsey set in the summer?
I mean - that should be plenty of time to go home and change clothes in between, right?
:t

Re: Proposing DB-meetup almost very close to the geographical center of the EU.

Not sure what Europe ....

Okay, my bad. :mute

Konstanz is not even close to the geographical center of Europe as a continent, but Konstanz is near (enough) the geographical center of the European Union's area (as defined by the area comprised by its member countries).

EDIT: removed false info on switzerland

But doesn't it kind of look like it's in the middle?
It doesn't, huh... - oh, well.. :duh

I had dinner at a restuarant on lake konstanz on one of my euro trips driving from Zurich to Frankfurt. If memory serves me correct Konstanz is right on the border? It was a beautiful place ... sigh ....

And that is somewhere in Switzerland...
I know it does not matter, but I like to verify facts, otherwise similar urban legends spread easily. The geographical center of EU is currently (after the recent inclusion of Romania and Bulgaria) in Gelnhausen (near Frankfurt). That's rather far north west from Switzerland, and it was even farther before. We couldn't afford having the geographical center in Switzerland! Can you imagine what they would charge us for it?!!! :D

sanso starts rolling the PR-drum.

Yep, that's the place, right on the border. One can walk from Konstanz into Kreuzlingen (the swiss 'sister-town', as we call it) without noticing.
And yes, it is beautiful. :)
Let me see if I can find some recent pictures... Yes, here's two of them.
This is the view from outside the brewery - not what You think - these have been taken while walking from home to University of KN on Sunday (Jan, 28th) - the snow has gone in the meantime.

Just by the way, there are a couple of really nice wineries near, as well.

rofl - You've been there, haven't You?

Darn, so it's not Switzerland after all - I'll have to pick up that habit of verifying things..
Ah, well. Frankfurt is close enough (~3,5hrs, btw :) )
I do hope people are still interested, though.

Just a thought here but what about making it in the summer? (July - August)

Setting it far in advice will allow people to schedule and give them heads ups.

Any ideas?

lol good thought Morg.. :D

Thanks :)

I may even be able to make the meeting too :inlove. I do agree with Sanso, having a big get together would be awesome.

Especially if its in some nice waters .

yeah id need some time to save up the rand vs the euro is in a bad state. And then obviously id need to get leave from work etc etc etc. But i wouldnt mind a week trip to europe to meet up with some DB members.

Hmm. okay. - more time.
So how about this:

1. I keep up the invitation for March. The water is beautiful - if cold - right now and I still have to try out my new suit that ought to be here by then. No local freedivers around, sadly, so I have to rely on You folks to come by.

2. We schedule a DB summer jam sometime around august. With that long to plan ahead, we could even upscale things a bit. Make it a week long event, include a freediving course, issue certificates (if someone will be there who can do that), etc...
We could also swim over to Switzerland and thus call it an international event - hey, how about that!?
The lake is 254m deep (according to [ame="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodensee"]wikipedia[/ame], not as much info in the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodensee"]english version[/ame]) - that's even enough for a no-limits thing.

I'm just daydreaming here, I could definitely not do this on my own, but would gladly help.

Andreas Falkenroth (AIDA instructor) lives at the opposite end of the Lake, maybe he would be in for a course and certificates.

Just an idea...

just say when & where
i will be there

OHH
sound like a song rofl rofl
really i meen it
