Hey all, I'm Marco-Alexi ! I'm 52, been in Texas the last 20 years, but retiring in January 2025 and moving back to Puerto Rico. I'm a Master Scuba Diver (Recreational), and last spearfished around 1997, but looking very forward to getting back into it after we move.
I unfortunately have long term issues associated with "Long Covid", having beat a 5% chance of survival a few years back, so my breath hold is only couch-static of 2 minutes. I am self limiting myself to shallow reefs not exceeding about 10 meters, at least until I figure out if it's safe for me to push further. I'm not against Spearfishing on scuba, though I suspect some of you may be, but it an option I'll explore considering my limitations now. Unfortunately, finding accurate Puerto Rico information on laws and restrictions is a measure of insanity, with everything found being 15 years old, conflicting information, and from non official sources, so who even knows if it's legal there or not, and if it's not, whether anyone actually enforces if, or if it's one of the "Do as the locals do" type things.
I will mostly be doing shore dives and kayak dives with gun for snapper, hogfish, sheepshead and such, and pole spearing for lionfish. Anyone in Puerto Rico that wishes to have a dive buddy with rescue diver certification, and can have a good time within my safety limitations, please feel free to reach out. We will likely be within an hour of the Mayaguez area.
Cheers, and happy hunting !
