Question about Rob Allen Vectra

I am thinking of buying one, but there is something that I noticed about it. How do you reload it without some type of surface behind the handle to place against your chest. I was comparing it to the JBL explorer https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/...ucts_id=189&osCsid=8v8mr4movun8cmrgekjqkfmnn1 or magnum https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/...ucts_id=193&osCsid=8v8mr4movun8cmrgekjqkfmnn1 series guns, which have a shaft and a buttplate thing on the back to prop against your chest while reloading. Also the Omer Cayman for example https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/popup_image.php?pID=518&osCsid=8v8mr4movun8cmrgekjqkfmnn1

They have a small piece that comes off the back for support.

So my main question before buying one is weather it is harder to reload the RA guns with nothing other than the handle to prop against your chest?

Hi

in Australia the Rob Allen range of guns is VERY popular, they have taken alot of record fish ranging from 2-3kg estuary fish to Tuna and Marlin so they are more than capable and no offence to JBL users the Railgun style spearguns from Australia of South Africa(RA) are in another league.

as for loading it is no different to chest leading a normal european style speargun, i actually find the back of a Rob Allen tends not to place as much pressure akwardly on my chest as say my Cayman HF110 (personally a VERY good gun) anyways, if you are used to chest loading you will have NO troubles at all.

I have got a RA gun, the loading presure is the same as any other gun i have tried... i have also just put a RA reel on my bad boy and it is working like a dream
And as a extra bonus looks sweet

Hello Cheezwedge ,

As Dane said if you´re already used to chest load other spearguns, Rob Allen´s railguns are no different from those.

The only real issue in the loading pressure lies, (or at least what really defines it) on the length, diameter and number of bands to barrel lengh ratio, (specialy on bigger guns such as 130 and above, no matter what brand).
As a rule of thumb: the more powerfull the gun is the more pressure you will feel loading it.

Some people use a loading aid, specially spearos with small arms length and multiple band guns.
I have attached some pictures of a Rob Allen "loader", and of an easy way to keep it at hand while spearing. (Pic 1 and Pic 2).

As for the Vecta Reel it can be fitted easly in all Rob Allen spearguns.

(sorry for the pics quality but their wore taken back at the shop 10 min ago a bit on a hurry...lol)

I CAN T load most my 20 mm rubbers guns but i get SHAFTS with a 3rd notch
for loading ..then it become easy with a loading notch ..

If you are trying to dry load a gun it is extremely difficult, in the water is much easier and safer, you should never dry load your gun. I have 2 RA guns, a 100cm Caranx which has a 20mm band and a 130cm Tuna which has 2 16mm bands. I also have a reel which I have not yet installed. I love My RA guns and with a wetsuit on I dont feel any sort of adverse pressure when loading. I have also loaded them with nothing but a pair of board shorts on and it hurt a little but a few more of those and I'll be tough as nails. Get a RA gun, you'll never regret it!!!

Nuno: can you explain how the loading aid works? i can load my 110 with an 18mm rubber using shark tabs on an omer spear, but if its a regular notched shaft its nearly impossible for me.

I dont want to step on Nunos toes but I believe that that Metal type hook you see on the band is used to hook the wishbone of the band on your gun, then you will use it as an extension of your band, pull it back and hook the wishbone of the "loading aid" to your shaft tab, take a break and then grab the your band and finish loading the rest of the way.

Great idea, and better than having to order a shaft with a rest tab in it.

The first thing I do to my gun when I get it is take off the loading T. I find the gun a lot better to load without the T.

So I received my rob allen "tuna 900" which i guess is the same thing as the vectra 90, but there is no piece on it to attach a reel. not sure weather I got the wrong one or if I had to order that special or something. Do you install the reel holder separately or is it built onto the pistol grip section from the manufacturer?

Rob Allens don't usually come with a reel holder and you will need to install it separately. If you have to drill the barrel make sure to move the plug forward or you will flood your barrel and it won't float without the spear in it. The best bet is to buy a reel where you don't need to drill the barrel though.

I'm pretty sure that the tuna has the vectra handle.

If you have a vecta reel, you will need to drill the holes yourself into the barrel. You should notice that the piece of plastic that screws onto the barrel fits perfectly into the handle where it attaches to the barrel. Make sure you uselitsof sillicone when you screw the screws in or your barrel will corode from the stainlesss screws and the alloy barrell and saltwater, something to do with electric current. screw the stainless eyelet to the end of the muzzle to run your dynema through.
