i saw in national geografic freediver from S Africa
Mike is his name freediving with GWS !!!
he was going out from Greensbay or something
someone saw that or know the guy ??
i am interested in going to SA (to do that also if its possible)
or just watch from the boat rofl
it was awsome !!!!!!!

You're not talking about Mike Horn by any chance?
Have a look on google about Andre Hartman, he I belive is the all time crazy person when it comes to swimming with those wonderfull creatures, he runs trips too :)

There is a recent thread here somewhere about Hartman and a link to a videoclip of him riding the dorsal fin of a large GWS. He is carrying a speargun but not sure how useful it would be if things went bad :vangry

in oz we had a guy taken a few weeks back on SCUBA, plus i was chased out of the water by a fairly large bronze whaler, this guy is very clever or very silly.

Mikes site
this guy is amazing !!!!!
thx everybody when is the best season to visit SA??

February I believe, a bunch of us where hoping to do a DB trip to SA and that was recomended to be the best time

i would like to know where in SA i can spearfish and if i need a permit?

Hi Mundial

Anytime from Now, thru to March or April is ok for Capetown, but your best months are November thru to march. You need a permit, R 65-00 will get you a licence for a year.
Gansbaai is not where you want to be spearfishing, the place is full of GW's. Mike Runtzen used to freedive with GW's, but that is now totally illegal, the only way to see these guys is from a cage, and believe me it's worth the trip!

Epic spearfishing along the entire Cape Coast, as I've mentioned before, feel free to contact me if you need someone to show you around, my passion is hunting Musclecracker and reef aspetto hunts, if you are after Blue water action and big fish, Miles will help out with advice. :D

Jeff

jee thanks guys !!!
i am planning spearfishing in Mozambique and then SA
