Does anyone know if Underarmour cold gear clothing has any insulating properties in water? I know it will not be nearly the same as a wetsuit, but I'm curious.

I only ask because I already have a full suit of cold gear underarmour from sports, and I won't be diving in very cold water so I thought it might be enough just to wear that and not have to buy a wetsuit.

Anyone know?

It'll protect you from sunburn and jelly stings, but will not insulate you immersed in a liquid.
Cheers.

Ok, I think I'll probably still use it. I only get a chance to dive over the summer, and it's warm anyway. The black will probably draw sun energy too, so that will help some.

Thanks!

Yeah if you're warm enough, then all you need is something stop the sunburn. Are you hunting? If so, you might need a something on your chest for loading the speargun.

i have a 70cm gun and i usually bare chest load it, it has 20mm bands... i imagine with a bigger gun you definitly need some sort of padding to prevent bruising.

I'd say go out and see what happens. If it becomes painful and you end up with a big sore spot the next day, then pad it is!

If your gun has a butt extension for loading you can glue some padding to that. A piece cut from the sole of a flip flop maybe.

Yeah that would work great. I saw a guy use a mousepad too, but thicker is better I think. Even with a 3mm suit I hurt myself because there was no chest pad.

Good ideas. I have a neoprene insulator bag that I found on the side of the road, I think i'll cut that into squares and layer it onto the butt of the gun. Thanks for the ideas
